SEVEN GREYHOUNDS NAMED MAC FOOTBALL ALL-STARS

ANNVILLE, PA --- Seniors Joe Pollock (Allentown/William Allen HS), Geoff Laird (Linwood, NJ/Mainland Regional HS) and Brian Clark (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood HS) and juniors Kirk Harryn (Bethlehem/Freedom HS), Chris Buzas (Sinking Spring/ Wilson West Lawn HS), Josh Wren (Magna, UT/Cypress HS) and Steve DiRenzo (Netcong, NJ/Lenape Valley Regional HS) of the Moravian College football team have been named to the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth League All-Star teams. Pollock was honored on the first team while the other six earned second team honors.

Pollock, an offensive tackle and one of Moravian’s co-captains, helped the Greyhound offense to average 301.1 yards per game this season including 107.0 yards per contest on the ground. Pollock was also named to the MAC Commonwealth League All-Star First Team in 1997. Moravian finished the 1998 campaign with a 3-7 record.

Clark, a defensive tackle and Moravian’s other co-captain, finished his collegiate career with a 10 tackle and one sack performance in his final game against Muhlenberg. Clark was fifth on the Greyhound squad this fall with 49 tackles including 30 solo stops. He also had four tackles for loss, one sack, one pass break-up, two fumbles caused and one fumble recovery.

Laird, a defensive end, was seventh on the Greyhounds this season with 41 tackles. He also had four tackles for loss, three and a half sacks, four pass break-ups and an interception return for a touchdown in a 17-7 victory over Albright College.

Harryn, a fullback, carried the ball 108 times this season for 447 yards and one touchdown. He also led Moravian in receptions with 23 for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

Buzas, a defensive end, was named to the MAC Commonwealth League All-Star Second Team for the second straight year. This season, Buzas had 40 tackles with three for loss and four and a half sacks.

Wren, a middle linebacker, led the Greyhounds in tackles this season despite missing two-thirds of the final game against Muhlenberg with an injury. Wren made 85 total tackles in 1998 with nine for loss and a team leading five sacks. He also caused one fumble and recovered another.

DiRenzo, a free safety, was tied for the lead on the team with four interceptions, which he returned 39 yards. DiRenzo was also fourth on the Greyhound defense with 55 tackles.
