 FIVE LADY GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO ALL-STAR TEAMS

ANNVILLE, PA --- Five members of the 1999 Moravian College softball team have been named to the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth League All-Stars announced Wednesday.

Junior shortstop Zan Azzolino (Lodi, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and sophomores outfielder Missy Hummel (Walnutport/Northampton HS) and designated player Meg Ryan (Edison, NJ/Edison HS) were named to the first team while junior pitcher Becky Stroup (Palmerton/Palmerton Area HS) and freshman catcher Stacy Matuczinski (Bethlehem/Liberty HS) were named to the second team.

Moravian has posted a 26-14 record this season and is currently ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III East Region Poll. The Lady Greyhounds are awaiting the announcement of the 1999 NCAA Division III Tournament field, which will occur on Sunday, May 9th. The top six teams in the East Region are awarded bids.

Azzolino was named to the MAC Commonwealth League First Team for the second straight season and to the MAC All-Star squad for the third time. Azzolino started all 40 games for Moravian and had a .422 batting average with 46 hits in 109 at-bats. She added 24 runs scored, 15 RBIs, two triples, two stolen bases and a .962 fielding percentage.

Hummel earned her fist MAC Commonwealth League All-Star accolade after leading the Lady Greyhounds in hitting with a .435 batting average in 37 games. Hummel collected 54 hits, the third highest single season total in school history, in 124 at-bats with five doubles, 26 runs scored, 14 RBIs, six stolen bases and a .938 fielding percentage.

Ryan also earned her second straight appearance on the MAC Commonwealth League All-Star First Team. Ryan played in 39 games this season, mainly as the designated player, with a .316 batting average. She had 27 hits in 117 at-bats with six doubles, two triples, a team leading 25 RBIs, 15 runs scored and 14 walks. Ryan did pitch in 10 contests with a 5-4 record, two shutouts, a 1.97 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings.

Stroup, a MAC Commonwealth League Second Team All-Star for the second consecutive year, led the Lady Greyhound pitching staff with 21 appearances, a 13-6 record, six shutouts, a 1.70 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 123 1/3 innings. In 17 at-bats, Stroup had five hits and scored four runs.

Matuczinski has made the MAC Commonwealth League All-Star team for the first time. She played in 35 games for Moravian in her debut season with a .280 batting average. Matuczinski had 19 hits in 68 at-bats with 16 runs scored, nine RBIs, three doubles, a triple, a team leading 12 sacrifice bunts and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
