FOUR LADY GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO NFCA ALL-REGION TEAM

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Sophomores Missy Hummel (Walnutport/Northampton HS) and Meg Ryan (Edison, NJ/Edison HS) and juniors Becky Stroup (Palmerton/Palmerton Area HS) and Zan Azzolino (Lodi, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) of the Moravian College softball team have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-East Region teams announced Thursday.

Hummel was honored on the first team for the first time in her career while Stroup was named to the second team for the second consecutive year. Ryan, a third team honoree last season, was named to the second team while Azzolino was named to the third team.

The Lady Greyhounds posted a 26-14 regular season record and are seeded fourth heading into action at the NCAA Division III East Regional, which begins Friday at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, NC.

Hummel, an outfielder, leads the Lady Greyhounds with a .435 batting average with 54 hits in 124 at-bats. Hummel also leads Moravian with 26 runs scored and six stolen bases. The Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth League First Team All-Star also had 14 RBIs, eight walks and five doubles.

Stroup, a pitcher, has paced Moravian on the mound with a 13-6 record and a 1.70 earned run average. She has 78 strikeouts and six shutouts in 123 1/3 innings this season. Stroup was also named to the MAC Commonwealth League All-Star Second Team.

Ryan, a designated player and pitcher, has collected 37 hits in 117 at-bats for a .316 batting this spring. Ryan leads the Lady Greyhounds with 25 RBIs, 14 walks, six doubles and two triples. On the mound, Ryan posted a 5-4 record with two shutouts and a 1.97 ERA. She had 27 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings. Ryan also made the MAC Commonwealth League All-Star First Team as a designated player.

Azzolino, the Lady Greyhounds shortstop, is second to Hummel in hitting this season with a .422 batting average on 46 hits in 109 at-bats. Azzolino has added 24 runs scored, 15 RBIs, five doubles and two triples. She has recorded a team leading 80 assists in the field this season and set the school career record for assists earlier this season. Azzolino was also honored on the MAC Commonwealth League All-Star First Team.
