THREE GREYHOUNDS HONORED AS LVAIAW AWARD WINNERS

ALLENTOWN, PA --- Seniors Amy Sandt (Allentown/William Allen HS) and Carli Miller (Wyomissing/Wilson West Lawn HS) and sophomore Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic/ Riverside HS) from Moravian College were honored by the Lehigh Valley Association of Inter-collegiate Athletics for Women at the Annual Awards Luncheon at Cedar Crest College Thursday.

Sandt, a member of the Moravian women’s volleyball team was selected as the 2000 Outstanding Athlete for Moravian as well as the LVAIAW Outstanding Athlete for volleyball. Miller and Wolfsberger were tabbed as the LVAIAW Outstanding Athletes in soccer and track and field, respectively.

Sandt led Moravian to a 26-8 record this season and the volleyball team’s third straight trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Sandt had 425 kills this season and a school record 572 digs. She holds a total of ten school records including kills in a career with 1,492 and digs in a career with 1,665. Sandt was named the 2000 Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year and was on the All-Star team for the third straight year. She was also a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic All-Region team this season.

In addition to leading Moravian to three NCAA Tournament berths, Sandt helped the Greyhounds post a 102-26 overall record for four years. Only 21 student-athletes in Moravian history have won over 100 athletic contests in their careers with Sandt and fellow senior Kaitie Kramer (Bethlehem/ Bethlehem Catholic HS) becoming the first two volleyball players to achieve that feat.

Miller closed out her career on the soccer field at Moravian as the school’s all-time leading scorer, male or female. Over four years, Miller netted 59 goals and added 24 assists for 142 points. She led the Greyhounds this season to a 12-5 record including a 5-2 slate in the Commonwealth Conference. Miller netted 15 goals, including six game-winners, and had five assists this season and she was a member of the Commonwealth Conference All-Star team for the third straight year.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America honored Miller as an All-Region selection each of her four seasons at Moravian. Miller helped Moravian to a 46-22-3 record during her four years.

Wolfsberger in just her second year at Moravian has already been an All-American twice and she has three more chances this spring. In the fall of 1999, Wolfsberger led the Moravian cross country team to its seventh straight MAC title as she won the individual championship. Wolfsberger went onto lead the Greyhounds to a 20th place finish in the national championships as she earned All-American accolades with a 28th place finish.

On the track, Wolfsberger placed second in the nation in the 1,500 meters to earn All-American honors at the 2000 Indoor National Championships. She also became the first female in MAC history to win four goal medals at the conference indoor championships back in February. Wolfsberger was named the meet’s Outstanding Performer for her efforts and she led the Greyhounds to their fifth straight MAC Indoor title.

Wolfsberger looks to duplicate her accomplishments this weekend as she leads the outdoor track and field team after its eighth consecutive championship. Wolfsberger has already qualified for the NCAA Division III 2000 Outdoor National Championships in three events. She is an automatic qualifier in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters and she provisionally qualified in the 5,000 meters last weekend.
