KURVINK & SMITH NAMED TO COMMONWEALTH ALL-STAR TEAM

ANNVILLE, PA --- Freshman David Kurvink (Bethlehem/Liberty HS) and junior Clay Smith (Bethlehem/Liberty HS) of the Moravian College men’s tennis team have been named to the 2000 Commonwealth Conference Men’s Tennis All-Star Team announced by the Middle Atlantic Corporation Thursday.

Moravian finished the 2000 season with an overall record of 7-5 and a 3-3 slate in the Commonwealth Conference, which tied the squad for fourth place.

Kurvink played first singles for most of his first season with the Greyhounds and he finished the year with a 9-5 overall mark. Kurvink was seeded fourth in this past weekend’s 2000 MAC Individual Tournament and he reached the semifinals before losing to top-seed and eventual champion Vlad Handl from King’s College.

Smith had his best season for the Greyhounds with a 9-4 record including a 6-2 slate at second singles. Smith competed in the MAC Individual Tournament but lost in the first round.

Kurvink and Smith played together as the Greyhounds top doubles tandem this spring and they posted a 7-4 mark overall and a 5-1 record in Commonwealth Conference action.
