WOLFSBERGER NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Sophomore distance runner Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic/Riverside HS), who led the Moravian College women’s track & field teams to their fifth straight Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor title and eighth consecutive outdoor championship, has been named to the GTE Academic All-District II College Division Spring At-Large Second Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

To be eligible for GTE Academic All-America® accolades, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. The College Division is made up of all the NCAA Division II and III schools in the nation as well as all NAIA schools. Student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools are named to the University Division Teams.

Wolfsberger, who is competing in two events at the 2000 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois this weekend, earned All-American status back in March at the 2000 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships with a second place finish in the 1,500 meters.

Wolfsberger, who won a total of seven Middle Atlantic Conference indoor and outdoor championships this year and was named the Most Outstanding Performer at both the MAC Indoor and Outdoor meets, will run in a preliminary race of the 1,500 meters Thursday at 5:00 p.m. She currently has the tenth fastest time (4:38.2) in the nation this season. If Wolfsberger finished in the top four of her preliminary or has one of the next four fastest times, she will advance to the championship race of the 1,500 meters on Saturday at 12:45 p.m.

Wolfsberger, who also earned All-American accolades in the 1999 NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships, will also be competing in the finals of the 3,000 meters on Friday at 6:45 p.m. She heads into the championships ranked 14th at 10:05.8.
