Moravian earned its eighth straight doubleheader
sweep and extended its winning streak to 16 straight games by scores of 9-1 and
8-0, in a pair of five-inning games versus Elizabethtown College
in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian also extended its Commonwealth
Conference regular season winning streak to 22 games dating back to the 2003
season. The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of the
first game when junior designated player Richelle McWilliams (Riegelsville, PA/Easton HS) hit an
RBI single to score sophomore catcher Danielle
Carrione (Bloomfield,
NJ/Mt. St.
Dominic HS), who has singled with one out. The Blue Jays
tied the game in the top of the third inning. Moravian would take the lead for
good with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore outfielder LeeAnna Roberts (Meshoppen,
PA/Elk Lake HS) connected on an RBI single to score McWilliams while senior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks East
HS) had an RBI ground out to score senior outfielder Stephanie Eddinger (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS), who had come on as
a pinch runner for sophomore outfielder Justina Black
(Orefield, PA/Parkland HS). Senior shortstop Heather Bortz (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS)
drove in the final run of the inning with an RBI single that scored Roberts. The Greyhounds scored five
times in the bottom of the fifth inning to institute the NCAA's
eight-run rule. Carrione
scored the first run off the inning on an error. Black reentered the game after Eddinger
was injured and drew a bases loaded walk to score freshman second baseman Beth Paly (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS).
Freshman third baseman Kelly Santry (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland HS) delivered an RBI single to
score sophomore first baseman Lauren Homa (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS) before Roberts hit into an RBI fielder's
choice that scored senior pinch runner Leah
Holmes (Clarks Green, PA/Abington
Heights HS). Bortz hit an RBI single to push Santry across
the plate with the final run. Moravian had 11 hits in the game with Bortz, Carrione and Santry each collecting two hits.
Junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township HS) earned her 12th
straight victory in the circle while allowing a run on three hits and two walks
while striking out three batters.
The Greyhounds got all the offense they would need in
the bottom of the second inning of the second game when Moravian to a 3-0 lead.
Black scored the first run of the
game on an error after a single by Roberts. Cianfichi followed with an RBI single to score Santry. The hit
was the 100th of Cianfichi's
career, making her the 20th player in school history to reach 100 career hits. Carrione
finished off the scoring in the inning with an RBI ground out that scored Roberts. The Greyhounds added three
more runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 6-0 lead. McWilliams led off the inning with a
solo home run to left center field, her sixth homer of the season. Bortz hit an RBI single to score Black while Carrione had another RBI ground
out to score Roberts. Moravian would
institute the NCAA's eight-run rule with a pair of
runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Freshman designated player Katie Uhas (Pottstown, PA/Owen
J. Roberts HS) hit a two-out, two-RBI single to score Paly and Carrione. Moravian finished the
contest with 13 hits including two each by Cianfichi, Black and Paly.
Hennessy improved to 17-2 in the
circle with her 13th straight victory and tenth shutout of the season. Hennessy allowed just two hits and a
hit batter while striking out five batters.
Moravian earned a doubleheader sweep of Delaware Valley College
by scores of 4-0 and 3-1 in non-conference action at Blue & Grey Field to
extend its winning streak to 18 straight. The Greyhounds scored all four of
their runs in the bottom of the first inning in the first game. Bortz scored the first run of the game
on an error while Carrione scored on a passed ball. McWilliams had an RBI single to score Paly while Santry hit into an RBI ground out to score Homa. The Greyhounds were limited
to just three hits in the game with all three coming in the first inning. Hennessy improved to 18-2 in the circle
with her 14th straight victory and 11th shutout of the season. Hennessy allowed just three hits while
striking out 11 batters to raise her school record total to 498 career
strikeouts.
Moravian, which has now swept nine straight
doubleheaders, took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Holmes hit an RBI single to score Black. Moravian would add a pair of
runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 3-0 lead. Paly scored on a wild pitch
before Black hit an RBI single to
score Homa.
Delaware Valley scored its only run of the
doubleheader in the top of the seventh inning with an unearned run. Moravian
had eight hits in the game with two each by Paly and Black. Moravian freshman Megan
Ritchey (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown HS) remained perfect in the
circle, increasing her record to 5-0 in her debut season. Ritchey allowed an unearned run on five hits and three walks while
striking out eight batters.
Moravian earned its tenth straight doubleheader sweep
and extended its winning streak to 20 straight games with victories by the
scores of 3-0 and 8-1 over Juniata
College in a conference
doubleheader at Blue & Grey Field. Moravian also extended its Commonwealth
Conference regular season winning streak to 24 games dating back to the 2003
season, and the Greyhounds have clinched their eighth straight postseason
appearance with the doubleheader sweep and Widener
University's sweep of Susquehanna University. This marks the second
straight season that Moravian has had at least a 20-game winning streak after a
29-game streak in 2004.The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the
second inning in the first game on a sacrifice fly by Black that scored Homa, who had led off the inning with a single. Moravian
would score another run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Black, which scored Paly. The Greyhounds finished
off the scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Bortz that scored freshman outfielder Keri Traficante
(Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS). Moravian was limited to just six hits
in the game with two by Homa.
Hennessy improved to 19-2 in the
circle with her 15th straight victory and school record 12th shutout of the
season. Hennessy allowed just two
hits while striking out 14 batters to raise her school record total to 512
career strikeouts. Hennessy's 500th
career strikeout came in the top of the first inning for the second out of the
game.
The Greyhounds got all the offense they would need in
the bottom of the first inning of the second game when Moravian scored five
runs on just four hits. Paly
started the scoring with an RBI double to score Carrione. Black connected on a two-RBI single with the bases loaded to score Homa and Paly. Traficante hit
and RBI single to score McWilliams before
Cianfichi hit an RBI ground out to score Black. Moravian added a run in the
bottom of the second inning for a 6-0 lead on and RBI single by Black to score Carrione. The Greyhounds pushed
the lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Paly to score Traficante and
an RBI single by McWilliams that
scored Carrione.
Moravian had 11 hits in the game with two each by Paly, McWilliams, Black and Traficante, and
the Greyhounds stranded 12 runners on base in the game including the bases
loaded twice. Juniata scored its lone run of
the doubleheader in the top of the fourth inning. Hennessy improved to 20-2 in the circle with her 16th straight
victory. Hennessy, who is now second
all-time at Moravian with 58 career victories, allowed just one run on nine
hits and a walk while striking out eight batters to raise her school record
total to 520 career strikeouts and her season record to 188 this spring.

Moravian dropped a 13-8 decision at Alvernia College
in non-conference action. Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the
first inning on a solo home run by senior third baseman Chris Benigno (Howell, NJ/St. Rose HS),
his team leading fourth homer of the season. Alvernia tied the game in the bottom
of the first inning at 1-1, and the Crusaders took the lead for good with
single runs in the second and third innings to build a 3-1 lead. Moravian would
score once in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 3-2 on an RBI
ground out by freshman outfielder Josh Baltz (Easton, PA/Easton HS) that scored junior first
baseman Richie Cline (Union Beach,
NJ/Keyport HS), who had doubled. Alvernia scored five times in the bottom
half of the fourth inning to extend its lead to 8-2. The Greyhounds scored another
run in the top of the fifth inning when junior outfielder John Howarth (Livingston, NJ/Livingston
HS) scored on an error. Alvernia scored a run in the fifth, another in the
sixth and three more in the seventh for a 13-3 lead. The Greyhounds added run
in the top of the eighth inning sophomore shortstop Pete Moore (Bogota,
NJ/Bogota HS) scored on a wild
pitch. Moravian finished off the scoring with four runs in the top of the ninth
inning. Moore
had a two-RBI single to score Howarth and sophomore catcher Colin Welles (Belvidere,
NJ/Belvidere
HS). Benigno
followed with an RBI single to score freshman second baseman Brett Stout (Easton, PA/Easton HS) before
senior outfielder Chris Clancy (Kendall
Park, NJ/Bishop Ahr HS) drove in the final run
with a sacrifice fly that scored Moore.
Moravian had seven hits in the game with two by Benigno. Senior pitcher Andrew Wach (Boonton, NJ/Boonton
HS) suffered the loss on the mound for the Greyhounds in his first action
in over a month due to an injury. Wach allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk in three
innings. Freshman Todd Remaley (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton
HS) was touched for five runs on just two hits and a walk in 1/3 of an
inning. Senior Mike Trimble (Bethlehem,
PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) pitched 3 2/3 innings for the Greyhounds,
allowing five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters.
Freshman Daniel Edleman (Pottstown, PA/The Hill
School) tossed the
final inning for Moravian, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
The Greyhounds fell to King's College by a score of 13-3
in a non-conference game at Gillespie Field. The Monarchs jumped out to a 1-0
lead in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by Matt Livoy. The Greyhounds would score all of their runs in the
bottom of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. Welles drove in the first run of the inning with an RBI double to score Baltz. Welles came
around to score on an error in the outfielder after a single by Moore.
Moore
would cross the plate on another King's error. The Monarchs took the lead right
back in the top of the third inning with four runs. King's would score twice in
the fourth inning, once in the fifth, three times in the sixth inning and two
more runs in the top of the ninth inning for the win. Moravian was limited to
just eight hits in the game with two by Cline.
Howarth suffered the loss on the mound for the
Greyhounds, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out
two batters in three innings of action. Freshman Matthew Swartz (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore HS) also pitched three innings,
allowing six runs, just three earned, on six hits and four walks. Swartz did strikeout three batters. Stout threw the final three innings of
the game, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
Moravian snapped a six-game losing streak with an 8-3
victory over Drew
University in
non-conference action at Gillespie Field. Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in
the bottom of the first inning on an RBI ground out by senior designated hitter
Steve Tomaszewski (Bethlehem,
PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) that scored Moore,
who had doubled to lead off the inning. Drew tied the contest with an unearned
run in the top of the third inning. The Greyhounds came right back in the
bottom half of the inning to retake the lead at 2-1 on an RBI single by Benigno that scored Moore, who had doubled again. The Rangers tied the game for a
second time with a run in the top of the fourth inning, and Drew took its only
lead of the contest with a single run in the top of the fifth inning for a 3-2
lead. The Greyhounds would score three times in the bottom half of the fifth
inning to take the lead for good. Tomaszewski
had an RBI single to score Moore before Cline hit a sacrifice fly to score Benigno. Clancy followed with an RBI single to
score Tomasewski.
Moravian added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI
single by Welles that scored Clancy and a two-RBI triple by Moore
that scored Welles
and Howarth.
The Greyhounds had 12 hits in the game with Moore
going five-for-five. Benigno,
Clancy and Welles each had two hits in the
victory. Freshman pitcher Trevor
Lawrence (Lansford, PA/Marian Catholic HS) improved to 4-2 on the season
for the Greyhounds with the complete game. Lawrence
allowed just three runs, two of them earned, on seven hits and a walk while
striking out six batters.

Moravian dropped a 15-14 decision at DeSales University
in a Middle Atlantic Conference match. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 7-4 lead
after the first quarter but the Bulldogs rallied to tie the match at halftime,
9-9. DeSales would pull away in the third quarter for a 13-12 lead. Moravian
would tie the match at 14-14 before DeSales scored the winning goal. Sophomore
attack Daniel Larson (Dover,
DE/Dover
HS) led the Greyhounds with five goals and an assists while sophomore
attack Clint Quedenfeld (Chalfont,
PA/Central Bucks West HS) added three goals and four assists. Sophomore
attack Nick Cacciutti (Media, PA/The
Haverford School) found the back of the cage twice while sophomore
midfielder T.J. Hirsch (Lake Peekskill, NY/Walter Panas HS) had
two goals and freshman attack Scott
Jackson (Greenwood, DE/Sussex Tech HS) and freshman midfielder Aaron Satterfield (Mt. Arlington, NJ/Pope
John XXIII HS) each scored a goal. Sophomore midfielder Ken Blom (Rochelle Park, NJ/Bergen Catholic
HS) contributed two assists and six face-off wins while freshman midfielder
Shane Doucette (Merrick, NY/Calhoun HS)
had an assist. Hirsch led the
Greyhounds with ten ground balls in the match, and he won eight of 14 face-offs.
Quedenfeld added four ground balls.
Freshman goalie Peter Coutros (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS) made eight
saves for Moravian, and he added four ground balls.
Moravian suffered its third straight loss, falling to
York (PA) College, 18-8, in a non-conference match played at Moravian Academy's
North Campus. Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead but would trail 4-2 at the end
of the first quarter. The Spartans had a 7-4 halftime lead before taking
control of the match with nine goals in the third quarter. Larson led the Greyhounds with four goals while Blom found the back of the cage twice. Quedenfeld contributed three assists
and a goal for Moravian while Cacciutti
had a goal and an assist. Blom won
eight face-offs while Quedenfeld had
four ground balls. Coutros suffered the loss in goal for
Moravian, allowing 16 goals and making ten saves. Freshman keeper Peter Schenenman
(Carlisle, PA/Carlisle HS) had a save and allowed two goals while
seeing action while Coutros
was serving penalty time.
Moravian won its first-ever Middle Atlantic Conference
match with a 15-11 victory at the University
of Scranton in an MAC
match. The Greyhounds, who are in their second season as a varsity sport at
Moravian, jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter and led 9-4 at halftime. Moravian kept its five-goal lead through the third
quarter with a 13-8 edge. Cacciutti led
the Greyhounds with five goals while Larson
added three goals and three assists. Quedenfeld
found the back of the cage twice to go with six assists while Jackson netted a pair of goals for Moravian. Blom, Hirsch and Satterfield
all scored one goal for the Greyhounds. Coutros had 18
saves in the victory for Moravian.

Moravian dropped its third straight match, falling to Drew University,
20-7 in a Middle Atlantic Conference match played on the HUB Quad. Moravian
fell behind 8-0 early in the first half and was never able to recover as the
Rangers held a 9-3 halftime lead. Junior midfielder Jessica Cordani (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro HS),
freshman midfielder Erica Spatz (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken HS) and freshman
attack Kellie Barnes (Newtown Square,
PA/Marple Newtown HS) each scored two goals for
the Greyhounds with Cordani adding
an assist, six ground balls and five draw controls. Sophomore attack Lindsey Lustrino (Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan
HS) also scored a goal for Moravian. Junior defender Lauren Johnston (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Upper Moreland HS) also had
six ground balls in the match while Spatz added four draw controls and three ground balls.
Sophomore goalie Jennifer Gassner (Manasquan,
NJ/Manasquan HS) made 16
saves for the Greyhounds.
Moravian dropped its fourth straight match, falling to
King's College, 20-7 in a Middle Atlantic Conference match. Cordani led the Greyhounds with three
goals while Lustrino and Spatz each had two goals and an assist.
Junior attack Rebecca Schol (West Chester, PA/Henderson
HS) added an assist for Moravian. Spatz had eight draw controls and three ground balls in the
contest while Lustrino scooped up
three ground balls. Gassner posted 13 saves in the cage for the
Greyhounds.

Moravian finished ninth of 15 teams at
the Mid-Atlantic Regional Invitational hosted by the University of Rochester
at the Hershey Country Club. Moravian had a team score of 656 while Allegheny College won the tournament with a score
of 611 over the two-day, 36-hole invitational. The tournament has 15 of the top
programs in the region and will help determine the field for this year's NCAA
Division III Championships. Freshman Bryan
Ott (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) led the
Greyhounds with a two-day total of 164, which tied for 30th of the 74 golfers. Ott had a round of 86 on the second
day. Sophomore Thad Miller (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus
HS)was
tied for 35th place in the tournament with a total of 165 after a second round
score of 85. Sophomore Brian Bergstol (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) and junior Dustin McCormick (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg HS)
each had tournament totals of 166 to tie for 41st place. Bergstol had an 81 on the second day while McCormick had a second round score of 86. Senior Todd Solecitto (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills
Regional HS) rounded out the Moravian five with a two-day score of 167,
which was tied for 46th. Solecitto finished the tournament with a round of 81.
The Greyhounds were in first place of 12 teams at the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational being hosted by
the University of
Scranton at the Glenmaura National Golf Course. Moravian had a team score
of 302, four strokes ahead of McDaniel
College. Bergstol fired a four-under par round
of 67 on the first day to lead the tournaments 60 golfers. McCormick was tied for 11th after the first 18 holes with a round
of 77 on the par 71 course while Ott
and Miller were tied for 22nd with
rounds of 79. Solecitto
rounded out the Moravian five with a round of 83 on the first day of the
tournament, which tied him for 34th place.
Moravian finished first of 12 teams at the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational being hosted by
the University of Scranton at the Glenmaura National
Golf Course. Moravian had a team score of 606 during the two-day tournament,
six strokes ahead of Susquehanna
University. Bergstol fired a round of 73 on the
second day, which was the third lowest round of the day and gave Bergstol a two-day total of 140,
placing him second among the 60 golfers. Bergstol
was just one shot out of first place for the tournament. McCormick was tied for sixth after the second 18 holes with a
two-day score of 151. McCormick had
a round of 74 on the par 71 course during the second round. Ott tied for 13th in the tournament
with a 36-hole total of 155 after a round of 76 on Sunday while Miller was tied for 30th with a total
score of 160 after firing an 18-hole total of 81 on the second day of the
tournament. Solecitto placed 48th overall with a score of
174 after a round of 91 on the second day.
Men’s Tennis – 4-9

The Greyhounds snapped a two-match losing streak with a
4-3 victory at King's College in non-conference action. The Monarchs started
the match by winning two of the three doubles contests to earn the doubles
point. Moravian's lone doubles victory came from the duo of sophomore Scott Shelbo (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS)
and junior Sean Lynch (West
Chester, PA/Henderson HS) at second doubles. The
Greyhounds would win four of six singles matches to take the match. Shelbo, Lynch and senior Mike Helmuth (Bethlehem,
PA/Harrisonburg
{VA} HS) all needed three sets to earn their victories while sophomore Josh Sheetz (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown
HS) earned a straight sets win.
Moravian saw its chances of a berth in the 2005
Commonwealth Conference Team Championship Tournament take a hit as the
Greyhounds fell to Lebanon
Valley College,
4-3, in Commonwealth Conference action at Hoffman Courts. Lebanon Valley
won two of three doubles matches to start the contest to earn the doubles
point. Moravian's lone double victory came from the duo of junior Neil Caniga (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees
HS) and Helmuth.
The Greyhounds won three of the first five singles matches to finish with
three-set victories by Caniga,
Helmuth
and Shelbo.
The final match for the deciding point was also a three-set match with Lynch coming up just short in the final
set.
The Greyhounds suffered a 7-0 loss at Wilkes University
in non-conference action. Moravian's only win was in doubles action with a
victory came at third doubles with a win by the duo of junior Nick Schuett (Oviedo, FL/Oviedo HS) and junior Rob DiLauri (Whippany,
NJ/Whippany
Park HS). However,
the Colonels won the other two doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Moravian dropped a 4-3 match in non-conference action at
the University of
Scranton. The Greyhounds
dropped all three doubles matches to loss the double point before picking up
three singles wins. Helmuth,
Caniga and Sheetz all had singles wins for Moravian.

Moravian had three individuals compete on the first day
of the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University. Senior Chelsea Mullins (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe HS) placed 23rd in the
5,000-meter run in a time of 18:06.35 while junior Alexis Vergalla (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees HS) was 26th in the
3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:19.39. Freshman Theresa Zataveski (Quakertown, PA/Gwynedd
Mercy Academy)
competed in the first day of the heptathlon as well. Zataveski placed 13th in the 200-meter dash in 29.24 seconds to
earn 537 points, 11th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.54 seconds for
537 points, 14th in the high jump at 1.24 meters (four feet, 3/4 inches) for
350 points and 12th in the shot put with a toss of 6.78 meters (22 feet, three
inches) for 321 points.
The Greyhounds competed on the second day of the
non-scoring Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University. Sophomores Kelly Applegate (Easton,
PA/Wilson HS)
and Kathleen McCarron
(Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) each had
sixth place finishes to lead Moravian on the second day of the invitational. Applegate was sixth in the javelin
throw with a toss of 37.78 meters (123 feet, 11 3/4 inches) while McCarron took
sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.24 meters (17 feet, 2 1/4 inches).
Other top ten finishes for the Greyhounds including sophomore Suzanne Tamlyn (Wappingers Falls, NY/Wallkill HS) taking eighth in the
400-meter dash in 1:00.47, senior Margaret
Benny (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua HS) placing ninth in the 110-meter hurdles in
15.31 seconds and the 4x800-meter relay squad of senior Kellie Smith (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS), junior Lauren Bahnatka (West Chester, PA/Henderson
HS), freshman Krystyn Fenon
(Palmerton, PA/Lehighton HS) and Vergalla
taking seventh in a time of 10:20.65.
In other track events on the second day, Tamlyn placed
17th in the 200-meter dash at 26.61 seconds while McCarron was 26th in the
200-meter dash with a time of 27.33 seconds and 28th in the 100-meter dash in
13.30 seconds. Benny placed 20th in
the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:08.51 while sophomore Amy Reehil (Roselle,
NJ/Roselle
Catholic HS) was 22nd at 1:09.12. Fenon
finished 13th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:59.69 while Bahnatka was 32nd in 5:14.81. Smith took 36th place in the 800-meter
run in a time of 2:26.03. Zataveski
placed 14th in the heptathlon with a two-day, eight-event total of 2,773
points.
In other field events, McCarron was 14th in the triple
jump with a distance of 10.36 meters (34 feet) while Applegate was 13th in the shot put at 12.04 meters (39 feet, six
inches) and 33rd in the discus with a toss of 32.15 meters (105 feet, six
inches). Senior Julie Anderson (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) was 24th in the hammer throw with a toss
of 38.75 meters, and Anderson took
26th in the discus at 32.75 meters (107 feet, 5 3/4 inches). Freshman Jessica Cianci Sussex,
NJ/Vernon Township HS) tied for 21st in the pole vault, clearing a height
of 3.05 meters (ten feet).

University with junior William Shimer
(Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) placing 97th in the 5,000-meter run in a time of
16:22.28. Senior Dan Corey (Fair Lawn, NJ/ Glen Rock
HS) and freshman Erik Nielsen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown
HS) also competed in the first day of the decathlon competition. Corey was sixth in the 100-meter dash
in 11.95 seconds to earn 661 points, and he was seventh in the 400-meter dash
in 54.08 seconds for 636 points, tied for fifth in the high jump at 1.74 meters
(five feet, 8 1/2 inches) for 577 points, sixth in the long jump at 6.16 meters
(20 feet, 2 1/2 inches) for 621 points and fourth in the shot put with a toss
of 11.21 meters (36 feet, 9 1/2 inches) for 559 points. Nielsen was 18th in the 100-meter dash in 12.45 seconds to earn 565
points, and he was 15th in the 400-meter dash in 55.52 seconds for 578 points,
tied for ninth in the high jump at 1.69 meters (five feet, 6 1/2 inches) for
536 points, 19th in the long jump at 5.40 meters (17 feet, 8 3/4 inches) for
461 points and eighth in the shot put with a toss of 10.01 meters (32 feet, 10
1/4 inches) for 486 points.

Moravian's top finish of the day, tying for third in the pole vault at a height
of 4.50 meters (14 feet, nine inches). Senior Scott Silvoy (Bethlehem,
PA/Bethlehem
Catholic HS) placed fourth in the 100-meter dash in 11.11 seconds while
freshman Ozzie Brown (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh HS) took fourth in the 110-meter high
hurdles in 15.13 seconds. Other top ten performances for the Greyhounds
included freshman Nathaniel Dutile (Plymouth, ME/Nokomis HS) placing fifth in the
shot put at 15.04 meters (49 feet, 4 1/4 inches), Corey taking seventh in the decathlon with 5,514 points, Brown finishing ninth in the long jump
at 6.54 meters (21 feet, 5 1/2 inches) and Nielsen
taking tenth in the decathlon with 5,127 points.
In other track races during the second day of the invitational,
Silvoy was
14th in the 200-meter dash in 22.68 seconds while Brown placed 18th in 22.76 seconds. Freshman James Bell (Mohnton,
PA/Governor Mifflin HS) was
25th in the 100-meter dash at 11.42 seconds and 32nd in the 200-meters at
23.33. Sophomore Josh Kline (Reading, PA/Exeter HS) placed
14th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.99 seconds, and he was 26th in the
200-meter dash at 23.10 seconds. Junior Greg
Rarick (Drums, PA/Hazleton HS) placed 21st in the 1,500 meters with a time
of 4:09.61, and Rarick finished 51st
in the 800-meter run at 2:01.64.
In other field events, sophomore Steve Kondorossy (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery
HS) placed 17th in both the discus with a toss of 37.60 meters (123 feet, 4
1/2 inches) and the hammer throw with a toss of 39.55 meters (129 feet, 9 1/4
inches). Senior Shawn Nelson (Bethlehem,
PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) was 20th in the hammer throw with a toss of 37.04
meters (121 feet, 6 1/2 inches) while freshman Robert Bernadyn (Mahanoy City, PA/Mahanoy
Area HS) took 25th in the hammer at 33.82 meters (110 feet, 11 3/4 inches)
and 26th in the discus with a toss of 34.13 meters (112 feet). Sophomore Michael Ossont (Archbald, PA/Lackawanna HS) placed
22nd in the javelin throw with a toss of 46.62 meters (152 feet, 11 3/4
inches).
