Football – 7-0 (MAC 7-0)
Sophomore tailback Chris
Jacoubs (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven HS) ran for 102 yards and two
touchdowns on 35 carries and junior quarterback Jerry Venturino (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong HS) completed six of 18
passes for 144 yards and two more scores to lead Moravian to a 35-14 victory
over Lycoming College in Middle Atlantic Conference action at David Person
Field in Williamsport. The win improved
the Greyhounds to 7-0 overall and in the MAC for the first time in school
history. The loss also ends the
Warriors’ streak of 29-consecutive winning seasons.
The Greyhounds would get possession for the first time in
the game after an interception by junior cornerback Tyler Chomik (
Lycoming would answer on the ensuing drive to tie the
contest at 7-7 with 7:35 remaining in the first quarter. Lycoming had to punt on the first play of the
second quarter, and Chomik set the
Greyhounds up at the Lycoming 35-yard line with a 29-yard punt return. On fourth-and-five from the 30-yard line, Venturino ran a quarterback draw to the
nine-yard line for a first-and-goal. Venturino finished off the drive with a
nine-yard scamper off the left side. Macaulay was wide left with the
extra-point, giving Moravian a 13-7 lead with 11:49 remaining in the second
quarter.
Lycoming would gain possession in good field position on
an interception however, Chomik
would come up with his second interception of the game and fifth of the season
at the Moravian four-yard line. Moravian
would be forced to punt after three plays.
The Greyhounds would extend their lead to 21-7 with 8:43
remaining in the third quarter. Moravian
started the drive on the Lycoming 28-yard line after senior linebacker Bill Carasia (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair
Haven HS) recovered a fumble. Jacoubs finished off the drive with a
ten-yard run. Venturino hit freshman tight end Kris Bisci (
Moravian would score again with 8:50 remaining in the
fourth quarter when Venturino found
junior wide receiver Russ Demko
(Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS) with a 41-yard touchdown strike, three
plays after the Greyhound defense had forced Lycoming to turn the ball over on
downs. Macaulay added the extra-point for a 28-7 lead. Demko
caught two passes for 57 yards, and the touchdown reception was the first of
his collegiate career.
Lycoming would come back on the first play of the ensuing
drive on a 65-yard touchdown pass and run to pull the Warriors within 28-14
with 8:35 remaining in the game.

Moravian held the ball for 33:38 in the game and ran 71
plays for 362 yards in the game. Venturino also had 52 yards on five
carries to go with his touchdown while sophomore fullback Joe Costanzo (

Moravian earned a 0-0 double-overtime tie at
The Greyhounds won their first Commonwealth Conference
match of the season with a 4-1 victory at
Women’s Tennis – 13-3
(Commonwealth Conference 6-1, MASCAC 9-3)
Moravian closed out its 2004 season with a 9-0 sweep of
King's College in non-conference action to finish the year with a 13-3
record. The Greyhounds opened the
contest by sweeping the doubles contests with wins by the teams of junior Nicole Gruber (Lebanon, Pa/Lebanon HS)
and freshman Leah Bradshaw (Perkasie,
PA/Pennridge HS), sophomores Courtney
Hall (Denver, PA/Cocalico HS) and Margo
Kokolus (Orefield, PA/Parkland HS) and junior Sara Weller (Gladstone, NJ/Bernards HS) and freshman Lindsey Hopper (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex HS). Moravian would also earn six straight sets
singles wins with victories by Gruber,
Bradshaw, Weller, junior Katie Cooke (
Women’s Volleyball – 12-17

Moravian lost its final home match of the season, falling

Moravian snapped a four-match losing streak with a 4-3
victory at
The Greyhounds suffered a 2-1 loss at Ramapo College of
New Jersey in non-conference action.
The loss was Moravian’s fourth defeat by one goal this season. The host Roadrunners jumped out to a 1-0 lead
in the 50th minute. The Greyhounds would
tie the match in the 55th minute when Cupples was award a
penalty stroke and found the back of the cage for her 14th goal of the
season. Ramapo won the match with a goal
in the 64th minute. The Roadrunners had
a 12-11 advantage in shots. Gaun had three stops for the
Greyhounds.
Moravian won its second Commonwealth Conference match of
the season in their final home game, defeating
Men’s Soccer – 7-7-1
(Commonwealth Conference 1-4, MASCAC 5-5)
The Greyhounds non-conference match at
Moravian lost its only match during the week and had its
chances for a berth in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament snapped with a
1-0 overtime loss at
Greyhound

Moravian had last week off as the 24th-ranked
Greyhounds prepare for the 2004 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships this
weekend at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Greyhounds completed the fall portion of their
schedule by winning their final three tournaments. The squad will resume its schedule in late
March as the squad prepares for the first-ever Commonwealth Conference
Tournament at the end of April 2005.
