Greyhound Weekly Update, December 20, 2004 (-2222-)

 

Women’s Basketball – 7-2 (Commonwealth Conference 2-0, MASCAC 3-2)

Last Week – Defeated #Drew University, 76-68.  #MASCAC game

Next Competition – Tues., Jan. 4th at #Wilkes University, 6:00 p.m.  #MASCAC game

            Moravian won its final game before the semester break with a 76-68 victory over Drew University in non-conference action at Johnston Hall, giving the Greyhounds a 7-2 record in the first month of the 2004-05 season.  Moravian jumped out to a 33-22 halftime lead while shooting 42 percent (13 of 31) in the first half with four three-pointers and three of five free throws.  The Greyhounds made 13 of 26 field goals (50 percent) with four three-pointers and 13 of 20 free throws after the intermission while committing 12 turnovers.  Drew rallied early in the second half and would actually take a lead at 45-43 with 9:10 remaining, but the Greyhounds responded.  For Moravian, five players scored in double figures led by 14 points apiece from sophomores guard Katie Rizman (Wall, NJ/St. Rose HS) and forward Kelly Applegate (Easton, PA/ Wilson HS).  Rizman added five assists while Applegate had six rebounds.  Junior forward Stephanie Seaman (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) contributed 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Greyhounds while senior guard Jen Behagg (Hamburg, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) tossed in 12 points to go with six assists and three boards.  Sophomore forward Jenny Hackleman (Solvang, CA/Rutgers Prep {NJ} HS) had ten points, eight rebounds and three assists while junior guard Nicole Savino (Macungie, PA/Brandywine Heights HS) grabbed a career high ten rebounds to lead Moravian.  Savino also had five points and two assists.  Freshman guard Sara Steinman (Springfield, NJ/Jonathan Dayton HS) added six points in the victory.

 

 

Men’s Basketball – 3-6 (Commonwealth Conference 2-0, MASCAC 3-2)

This Week – Wed., Dec. 22nd at Lafayette College, 7:00 p.m.

            Moravian won its first non-conference game of the season and its final home game before the semester break with a 93-33 victory over Drew University in a non-conference contest at Johnston Hall.  The Greyhounds jumped out to a 44-22 first half lead while shooting 43 percent from the floor (15 of 35) with six three-pointers and eight of ten free throws.  Moravian would shoot 50 percent (14 of 28) from the field in the second half with eight three-pointers and 13 of 17 free throws.  Moravian also dominated the glass in the game, grabbing 50 rebounds to 21 for Drew.  The Greyhounds had 16 players see at least three minutes of action during the game with 15 players netting at least one point.  Senior forward Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown HS) scored a game high 13 points with 11 coming in the first half, and Zaleski added six rebounds, three assists and two steals.  Junior guard Ed Reid (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl HS) added 12 points for the Greyhounds, all in the first half, with two rebounds and two assists.  Junior forward Steve Wenderfer (Chester, NJ/Mendham HS) contributed nine points and a game high eight rebounds and three steals while junior forward Zach Zsilavecz (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) had nine points.  Freshman guard Justin Chestnut (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland HS) contributed eight points, five rebounds and four assists while sophomore forward Matt Devlin (Sadsburyville, PA/Coatesville HS) had six points and four rebounds.  Sophomore guard Michael Clemente (Toms River, NJ/Central Regional HS), freshman guard Ryan Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS) and freshman forward Eric Whitman (Blairstown, NJ/Notre Dame HS) each had seven points with Miller added three assists while junior guard Joe Depasquale (Forked River, NJ/Lacey HS) had six points for Moravian.  Freshman forward Chris Earley (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan HS) had six rebounds and four points in the Moravian victory while sophomore guard Kyle Hatfield (Boca Rotan, FL/St. Andrews School) tossed in three points.
