Moravian snapped its first two-game losing streak in more than two years with a 67-63 upset of nationally-ranked Messiah College in Johnston Hall. The Greyhounds, who received votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll and were ranked 24th in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches' Poll this week, defeated the Falcons, who were 10th in the D3hoops.com poll and 14th in the Coaches' Poll, for just the second time in the last 16 meetings with both wins coming in Bethlehem during the last two regular season meetings. Moravian scored the first basket of the game and the teams went back-and-forth for the first six minutes of the game, playing to a 10-10 tie. The Greyhounds then went on an 11-0 run over the next seven minutes to build a 21-10 lead; however, Messiah responded with a 13-4 run to end the half. The Greyhounds were scoreless for the final 4:44 of the first half but still lead 25-23 at the break. Moravian connected on nine of 23 field goal attempts (39.1 percent) and seven of ten free throws in the first 20 minutes of the contest while the Falcons were just nine of 35 (25.7 percent) and four of five at the foul line. Moravian had a 22-20 edge in rebounds at the intermission; however, the Greyhounds had also committed 13 turnovers to Messiah's nine miscues. The first ten minutes of the second half remained close with neither team being able to build more than a three-point lead with Messiah's final three-point edge, 43-40, coming with exactly ten minutes left in the game. The Greyhounds scored the next six points to take a lead they would never relinquish. Moravian actually pushed the lead to double digits, 61-51, with 2:15 to play. Messiah wouldn't go away and pulled within a point at 64-63 with 20.7 seconds remaining on a three-pointer. The Greyhounds put the game away with three free throws in the final 17 seconds. Both teams were 12 of 28 from the floor (42.9 percent) in the second half. The Falcons added two three-pointers and were 14 of 15 from the foul line while Moravian had one three-pointer and connected on 17 of 22 second half free throws. Messiah finished the game with a 39-37 edge in rebounds, and the Falcons had 18 turnovers in the game to Moravian's 19 miscues. Seaman needs just three more boards to move into fourth all-time. Junior guard Rachel Berlin (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) had nine points off the bench for the Greyhounds to go with three rebounds while junior forward Jenny Hackleman (Solvang, CA/Rutgers Prep {HS} NJ) added six points, five rebounds and a team high three assists. The Eagles scored the first five points of the game and led 12-6 before a 9-2 run game Moravian its first lead of the game at 15-14 with 12:46 left in the first half. Juniata tied the game at 16-16 before the Greyhounds took control for good with an 18-4 run, building a 34-20 lead with 4:04 remaining in the first half.
