game
Season Complete
The Greyhounds had their 2005-06 season
come to a close with a 93-80 loss to Greensboro (NC) College in the First Round
of the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in a four-team site
at Randolph-Macon
College. Moravian
finishes its season with a 21-7 record in the team's first trip to the NCAA
Tournament since the 1992-93 season. The Greyhounds
jumped out to a quick five-point lead, 7-2, just over two and a half minutes
into the game. Moravian would hold the lead until the 10:38 mark when the Pride
moved ahead, 23-21. The game would go back and fourth with Greensboro
eventually running out to a trio of four-point leads, the final one at 46-44
with 1:55 remaining in the half. Moravian would send the game to the
intermission tied, 49-49, on a three-pointer by senior forward Stephanie Seaman (Bethlehem,
PA/Bethlehem
Catholic HS) with 34 seconds on the clock. Seaman scored 23 points in the first half for the Greyhounds. Both
teams shot very well in the first half with Moravian making 18 of 24 field
goals (52.9 percent), five of 11 three-pointers (45.4 percent) and eight of 11
free throws (72.7 percent). Greensboro
was 19 of 37 (51.4 percent) from the floor, six of 12 behind the three-point
line and five of six at the foul line (88.3 percent). Moravian had a 19-18 edge
on the boards in the first half while both teams committed ten turnovers. As
well as the teams' shot in the first half, was as cold as they were in the
second half. The Pride edged out to a 55-51 lead at the 16:07 mark before
Moravian responded with five points to take its final lead of the game, 56-55,
with 15:08 to play on a three-pointer by junior guard Katie Rizman (Wall, NJ/St. Rose HS). Greensboro went on an 11-2 run to take a
66-58 lead at the 10:37 mark. Moravian would eventually get back within two
points at 74-72 on a lay-up by junior forward Kelly Applegate (Easton, PA/Wilson
HS) with 3:55 remaining. However, the Greyhounds could not overcome the
Pride's free throw shooting in the final four minutes. Greensboro scored its final 19 points at the
foul line, making 19 of 22 attempts in the final 3:32. Moravian made just ten
of 42 field goal attempts in the second half (23.8 percent) while hitting just
two of 12 three-pointers and nine of 12 free throws. Greensboro shot a little
better, making nine of 25 field goal attempts (36.0 percent), two of six
three-pointers and 24 of 31 free throws (77.4 percent). The Pride also
out-rebounded Moravian 35-30 in the second half for a 53-49 edge on the boards
in the game. Moravian was forced into ten second half turnovers while Greensboro had nine
miscues in the second half. Seaman
led a trio of Greyhounds in double-figures with a career and game high 28
points to go with ten rebounds and four steals. Seaman concludes her career eighth at Moravian in scoring with
1,255 points and third in rebounds with 792. Applegate tossed in 19 points and added nine rebounds, four steals
and two blocked shots while junior forward Jenny
Hackleman (Solvang, CA/Rutgers Prep {NJ} HS) contributed 14 points and seven
rebounds. Junior guard Rachel Berlin (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom
HS) tossed in eight points and had four rebounds and three steals while Rizman finished with five points and
three rebounds. Sophomore guard Sara
Steinman (Springfield, NJ/Jonathan
Dayton HS) contributed six assists, three rebounds and three points for the
Greyhounds while sophomore guard LaToya Blake (Allentown, PA/Dieruff
HS) had three points, three assists and four rebounds.

Seagull Tournament
Moravian opened its 2006 season with a 4-0 shutout of North Carolina Wesleyan
College in the first round of the
Atlantic versus East Challenge being hosted by Virginia
Wesleyan College
at City View
Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Senior pitcher Megan Hennessy (Freehold,
NJ/Freehold Township HS) tossed a one-hitter in the victory. Hennessy allowed just single and a walk
in the fifth inning while striking out 13 batters for her 38th career shutout.
Moravian would give Hennessy all of
the offense she would need in the fourth inning on a two-RBI sacrifice fly to
right field by freshman outfielder Erica
Klepeisz (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) that was just
inches from being a grand slam home run. Sophomore third baseman Kelly Santry (Hatboro, PA/Upper
Moreland HS) and junior catcher Danielle
Carrione (Bloomfield,
NJ/Mt. St.
Dominic HS) scored on the play. Sophomore second baseman Beth Paly (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) added
an RBI single in the inning to score Hennessy,
who had a bunt single to load the bases. The Greyhounds added a run in the
fifth inning when sophomore outfielder Megan
Ritchey (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown HS) scored on a sacrifice
fly by Carrione.
Moravian finished the game with 14 hits including three by Paly and two each from Klepeisz and
junior outfielder Justina Black (Orefield, PA/Parkland HS). Klepeisz had the
only extra-base hit with a double.
The Greyhounds won their second game of the season by
shutout, defeating SUNY Plattsburgh, 5-0, in the team's second contest at the
Atlantic vs. East Challenge in Virginia
Beach, Virginia. Moravian
gave freshman pitcher Kristie Pellicani (Sparta, NJ/Sparta
HS) before she even threw her first collegiate pitch with three runs in the
top of the first inning. Freshman shortstop Jordan Opplinger (Allentown,
PA/Parkland
HS) scored the first run of the game on a SUNY Plattsburgh error before
junior first baseman Lauren Homa (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS) delivered a
two-RBI single to score Paly
and Black. The Greyhounds added a
run in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by Paly that pushed Klepeisz across
the plate. Moravian scored its final run in the top of the fifth inning on an
RBI single by senior designated player Richelle McWilliams (Riegelsville, PA/Easton HS) that
scored Opplinger.
The Greyhounds finished the game with eight hits including two each from Paly and Klepeisz. Pellicani
allowed just four hits and five walks while striking out nine batters for her
first collegiate shutout.
Moravian improved to 3-0 with a 10-5 victory over SUNY
Oneonta in the team's first game on the second day of the Atlantic versus East
Challenge in Virginia Beach,
Virginia. The Greyhounds jumped
out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run, home run by Black that also scored Paly. Moravian
extended its lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by
Klepeisz
that scored Ritchey, an RBI single
by Paly to
push Klepeisz
across the plate and an RBI fielder's choice by Black that scored Oplinger. SUNY Oneonta would get on the board with three
runs in the top of the third inning with on a bases loaded walk, an RBI single
and a Moravian error. The Greyhounds would get two of the runs back in the
bottom half of the third inning on an RBI single by Ritchey to score Santry. Ritchey
would score later in the inning on an error. Moravian added three more runs in
the bottom of the fourth inning for a 10-3 lead on a three-run home run by McWilliams that scored Paly, who had
doubled, and Black, who had walked.
SUNY Oneonta scored a single run in the fifth inning on a solo home run. The
Red Dragons also scored a single run in the sixth inning an RBI single.
Moravian finished the game with 12 hits including three by Paly and two each from Black and Klepeisz. SUNY Oneonta had six
hits. In the circle, Moravian freshman Katie
Agnew (Doylestown, PA/Lansdale Catholic HS) made her first collegiate
start, allowing five runs, only four earned, on six hits and six walks while
striking out ten batters for the victory. Pellicani tossed the final
inning for the Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds suffered their first loss of the season,
falling to Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0 in eight innings, in the final game
of the Atlantic versus East Challenge in Virginia
Beach, Virginia. The
game was a battle of two of the top teams in the East Region and the nation.
The Scarlet Raptors were ranked ninth in the NFCA Division III Preseason Top 25
Poll while Moravian was 17th in the poll. The Greyhounds had runners on base in
the first, fourth, fifth and seventh innings on singles by Paly, Black twice and Carrione. Rutgers-Camden put runners on base in the third
inning on walk, the fourth inning on an error and the fifth inning on a walk.
The teams went to the international tiebreaker of placing a runner on second
base to start the eighth inning. Moravian was supposed to start the top of the
eighth with Santry
on second base but due to an incorrect number for Santry on the line-up card, she
was immediately called out. With the Greyhounds unable to score, the Scarlet
Raptors were able to push a run across the plate on a two-out infield RBI
single. Hennessy allowed just two
hits and two walks while striking out seven batters. Hennessy was not charged with the run or the loss since the winning
run was the international tiebreaker runner placed on second base to start the
eighth inning. The run is a team unearned the loss and the team also takes the loss.

the bottom of the fourth inning with a single run, and the Eagles took the lead
in the bottom of the fifth inning with three more runs. Moravian had just four

Greyhounds defeated Beloit (WI) College, 8-7 in 11 innings, in a non-conference
game in Phoenix, Arizona. Beloit jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of
the second inning. The Greyhounds would take their first lead of the game with
a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI double by freshman
second baseman Scott Hettinger (Sinking
Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS), which scored Baltz, and an RBI single by Durso to score Hettinger. Beloit retook the lead in the top of the
sixth inning with two runs. Moravian would tie the contest at 3-3 in the bottom
of the seventh inning on a solo home run by Cline. Beloit
took a 6-3 lead in the top of the eighth inning but the Greyhounds responded
with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 6-6. Hettinger started the scoring with an
RBI single to score Moore. Bisco, who had
come into the game in relief in the top half of the inning, delivered a two-RBI
single to score Hettinger and Durso, who had
walked. Neither team scored in the ninth inning so the game went to extra
innings. Beloit scored once in the top of the tenth inning but the Greyhounds
responded with a run in the bottom of the tenth on an RBI triple by Moore that
scored freshman Joseph Principe
(Livingston, NL/Livingston HS), who had pinch ran for freshman Matthew McCarthy (Allentown, PA/Allentown
