Greyhound Weekly Update, March 27, 2006 (-2222-)

 

Softball – 13-3 Commonwealth Conference 2-0, MASCAC 2-0)

                Moravian’s first doubleheader of the week at rival Muhlenberg College was postponed due to cold temperatures.  It was been rescheduled for Thursday, March 30th at 2:30 p.m. in Allentown.

 

                The Greyhounds, ranked 17th in the nation, swept their third straight doubleheader of the season, defeating Dickinson College, 10-2 and 10-6, in non-conference action.  The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the first game on an RBI single by junior outfielder Justina Black (Orefield, PA/Parkland HS) to score freshman shortstop Jordan Oplinger (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS), who had reached on an error. Moravian would extend its lead to 5-0 in the top of the third inning with four more runs. Oplinger drove in the first run with an RBI triple that scored sophomore outfielder Megan Ritchey (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown HS). Sophomore second baseman Beth Paly (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) followed with an RBI single to score Oplinger. Sophomore third baseman Kelly Santry (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland HS) drove in the final two runs of the inning on a two-RBI single that scored Black and senior designated player Richelle McWilliams (Riegelsville, PA/Easton HS).  The Greyhounds pushed the lead to 10-0 in the top of the seventh inning. Santry started the scoring in the seventh with an RBI single to score sophomore outfielder Keri Traficante (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS). Freshman outfielder Deanna Mangieri (Pleasantville, NY/Byram Hills HS) hit an RBI single to score junior first baseman Lauren Homa (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West HS) while Santry scored on a wild pitch. Freshman outfielder Erica Klepeisz (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) drove in junior catcher Danielle Carrione (Bloomfield, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic HS) with an RBI ground out before Oplinger finished off the scoring with an RBI single to score Mangieri.  The Red Devils would push a pair of runs across the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning. Moravian pounded out 17 hits in the game including four by Santry, three by Oplinger and two from Homa. Greyhound senior Meagan Hennessy (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township HS) earned the victory in the circle, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. Karrie Brondell took the loss for Dickinson.

 

                Moravian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the second game on a pair of Red Devil errors that allowed Klepeisz and Oplinger to score. The Greyhounds would extend their lead to 3-0 in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Paly that scored Klepeisz.  Dickinson would cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning. Moravian got the two runs plus four more back in the top of the fourth inning for a 9-2 lead. Freshman catcher Sheri Bienick (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley HS) started the scoring with an RBI double to push Santry across the plate. Bienick would score on an RBI single by Oplinger, and Oplinger scored on an RBI single by Black. McWilliams drove in Paly and Black with a two-RBI double, and McWilliams would cross the plate with the final run of the inning on an RBI single by Homa.  Moravian scored its final run of the game in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI double by Oplinger that scored Klepeisz. The Red Devils would cut Moravian's lead down to 10-5 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning including two unearned runs. Dickinson scored the final run of the game, another unearned run, in the bottom of the seventh inning. Moravian finished the game with 13 hits including three by Klepeisz and two each from Oplinger and Bienick.  Freshman pitcher Kristie Pellicani (Sparta, NJ/Sparta HS) improved to 4-1 in the circle for the Greyhounds, allowing six runs, just two of them earned, on eight hits and two walks while striking out six batters.

 

                Moravian won its seventh straight game in the first game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Juniata College, 2-0, behind the fifth career no-hitter by Hennessy. Hennessy also had her 23rd career game with double-digit strikeouts with ten in the game, which was her fifth shutout of the season and 42nd of her career. The Greyhounds would get all of the offense they would need in the top of the sixth inning when Santry doubled with two outs to score Traficante. Traficante came into run for Black, who had singled to lead off the inning. Moravian would score another run in the top of the seventh inning. Bienick led off the inning with a double and was replaced by Ritchey. Klepeisz would reach on a bunt single to move Ritchey to third. Oplinger then hit into a double play that allowed Ritchey to score. Moravian had nine hits in the game with two by Oplinger.

 

                The Greyhounds swept third fourth straight doubleheader and remained undefeated in Commonwealth Conference action with a 9-1, five-inning victory over Juniata College in the second game of a conference doubleheader. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Black started the scoring with a two-RBI single that scored Oplinger and Paly, who had singled and doubled respectively. Black would score on a Juniata error before Carrione drew a bases loaded walk to score Homa. Klepeisz, who had led off the inning with a ground out, hit a two-RBI single to score Bienick and Santry, who had both walked. Moravian would leave the bases loaded in the inning. Juniata scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning on a Moravian error. The Greyhounds scored three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Santry had an RBI single to score Traficante. Mangieri added a two-RBI double later in the inning to score Santry and Homa. The game would be ended after five innings due to the NCAA's eight-run rule. Moravian had nine hits in the victory with two each by Oplinger and Klepeisz. Hennessy earned her second win of the doubleheader and 75th of her career in the circle, allowing a unearned run on a hit and a walk with seven strikeouts in four innings of action. Pellicani tossed the final inning for the Greyhounds, retiring all three batters she faced.

            The Greyhounds dropped a non-conference match at FDU-Florham, 6-0. Moravian's lone point came at first singles from a three-set victory by senior Neil Caniga (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS).

 

            Moravian's Commonwealth Conference opener with Elizabethtown College for Saturday, March 25th has been postponed until Thursday, April 6th at 3:30 p.m. due to impending inclement weather.

 

            The Greyhounds earned their first victory of the season with a 4-3 win over the University of Scranton in non-conference action at Hoffman Courts. Moravian opened the match by taking two of three doubles contests to earn the doubles point. Caniga and senior Sean Lynch (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) posted a 9-7 win at first doubles while junior Scott Shelbo (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) and freshman Lee Gustin (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) won at second doubles, 8-3. Caniga, Lynch and freshman Jeremiah Reinhart (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley HS) each had straight sets victories in singles action to clinch the win for Moravian.

 

 

 

Men’s Lacrosse – 1-5 (MASCAC 0-1)

            The Greyhounds dropped their fourth consecutive match, falling to rival Muhlenberg College, 9-3, in a non-conference match at Scotty Wood Stadium. Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the match when junior midfielder Ken Blom (Rochelle Park, NJ/Bergen Catholic HS) scored; However, Muhlenberg would score twice to end the first quarter with a 2-1 lead. The Greyhounds would tally the first two goals of the second quarter to retake the lead at 3-2 on goals by Blom and freshman attack Jason Tosches (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South HS). The Mules would tie the match up before halftime. In the second half, Muhlenberg scored six unanswered goals for the victory. Muhlenberg finished the game with a 39-23 advantage in shots, a 42-26 edge in ground balls and won ten of 15 face-offs. For the Greyhounds, Blom had two goals while Tosches had one goal. Junior midfielder TJ Hirsch (Putnum Valley, NJ/Walter Panas HS) had an assist for Moravian to go with four ground balls and two face-off wins. Freshman defender Steven Carroll (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell HS) and Blom each also had four ground balls while senior defender Rocco DiPoalo (Keyport, NJ/Academy of Marine Science HS) won three of four face-offs. Moravian freshman goalie Benjamin Larson (Dover, DE/Dover HS) made 20 saves in his first collegiate start.

 

            Moravian lost a Middle Atlantic Conference match at Lycoming College, 16-7. The Warriors jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter and led 9-3 at the intermission. Lycoming also led 12-5 after three quarters, and won 15 of 25 face-offs in the match. The Warriors had a 40-29 advantage in shots and a 67-50 edge in ground balls. Blom led Moravian with two goals and two assists while Tosches scored a pair of goals. Freshman attack Keith Danner (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland HS), freshman midfielder Bradley McVaugh (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) and Hirsch each had a goal for the Greyhounds while sophomore midfielder Aaron Satterfield (Mt. Arlington, NJ/Pope John XXIII HS) added an assist. Hirsch had 13 ground balls for Moravian while Blom, Hirsch and DiPoalo each won three face-offs. Larson made 11 saves in just over 45 minutes of action while freshman Brian Cleaver (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS) made his first appearance in goal for the Greyhounds, making two saves.

                Moravian lost its fifth straight game, falling to rival Muhlenberg College, 14-7, in non-conference action. The Mules took a 3-0 lead on a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. The Greyhounds responded with four runs in the top of the second inning. Freshman first baseman Mark Maglione (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan HS) drove in junior catcher Colin Welles  (Belvidere, NJ/Belvidere HS)with an RBI single and freshman outfielder Eric Shea (Madison, NJ/Morristown Beard HS) had an RBI single to score freshman third baseman Matthew McCarthy (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS). Freshman outfielder Joseph Durso (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brother Academy HS) connected on a two-RBI double to score Maglione and Shea. Muhlenberg responded in the bottom of the third inning. The Mules added four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 9-4. Muhlenberg scored five times in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 14-4 lead. Moravian would score its final three runs in the top of the ninth inning. McCarthy had an RBI single to score freshman shortstop Kevin Gambrino (Brick, NJ/Monsignor Donovan HS). Sophomore pitcher/second baseman John Bisco (Easton, PA/Notre Dame HS) had an RBI single to score senior designated hitter Richie Cline (Union Beach, NJ/Keyport HS) while sophomore outfielder Josh Baltz (Easton, PA/Easton HS) drove in the final run with a bases loaded walk to push McCarthy across the plate. Moravian had 12 hits in the game with two each by Baltz, McCarthy, Maglione and Shea. Moravian senior John Howarth (Livingston, NJ/Livingston HS) suffered the loss on the mound, allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out two batters in 2 1/3 innings of action. Bisco tossed 3 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on three hits and two walks. Sophomore Brett Stout (Easton, PA/Easton HS) tossed one inning, allowing five runs, four of them earned, on four hits while freshman Brian Davis (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS) tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

 

                The Greyhounds dropped the first game of a Commonwealth Conference series with Susquehanna University, 8-4. Moravian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Baltz that scored Bisco, who had walked. Baltz would cross the plate on an RBI single by Durso. The Crusaders would take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The Greyhounds tied the game in the top of the third inning when junior shortstop Pete Moore (Bogota, NJ/Bogota HS) scored on a wild pitch after being hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Susquehanna retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a pair of Moravian errors. Moravian tied the game once more at 4-4 in the top of the fifth inning when Moore hit an RBI ground out to score Shea who had led off the inning with a triple. The Crusaders took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Susquehanna would add insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Moravian had seven hits in the game including two each from Baltz and Shea. Moravian sophomore pitcher Trevor Lawrence (Lansford, PA/Marion Catholic HS) suffered the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs, just three of them earned on 12 hits and four walks while striking out three batters.

 

                Moravian dropped the first game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader to Susquehanna University, 5-3, at Gillespie Field. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs and runners on first and third, Moravian sophomore third baseman Brett Stout (Easton, PA/Easton HS) stole second base and a throw into the outfield allowed Stout to reach third and Durso to score from third. Stout would score on a passed ball on the third strike to Shea, who beat the throw to first base. Susquehanna would take a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Moravian would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning one an RBI single by Stout to push Welles home. The Crusaders would take the lead right back in the top of the fifth inning. Susquehanna had six hits in the game while the Greyhounds were limited to four hits. Sophomore Matthew Swartz (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore HS) took the loss on the mound for the Greyhounds, allowing five runs, just two of them earned, on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts in five innings of action. Sophomore Brandon Cohn (Newtown Square, PA/The Shipley School) tossed the final two innings for Moravian, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out one.

 

                The Greyhounds fell in the second game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader versus Susquehanna University at Gillespie Field, 6-5 in eight innings. Moravian would take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Baltz that scored Moore, who had led off the inning with an infield single. Moravian left the bases loaded in the inning and a total of nine runners on base in the game. Susquehanna took its first lead of the game with three runs in the top of the third inning. The Greyhounds would pull within a run at 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI infield single by Durso to score Cline, who had tripled with two outs. Moravian tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Moore to drive in Shea who had tripled. The Crusaders took a 5-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning. Moravian would tie the game and force extra innings in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run home run by Cline right down the left field line. The homer was Cline's third of the season. Susquehanna scored what was the winning run in the top of the eighth inning. Moravian pounded out 13 hits including three each from Cline and Shea and two each off the bats of Baltz and Moore. Maglione suffered the loss on the mound, allowing just a run on three hits while tossing two innings. Maglione replaced Stout with two runners on and no outs in the top of the seventh inning. Stout was charged five runs on five hits and four walks with three strikeouts in six-plus innings of work.

 

                Moravian's non-conference game versus Alvernia College for Sunday, March 26th was postponed due to poor field conditions, light rain and cold temperatures. The game has not been rescheduled at this time.

Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – 0-0 (Commonwealth Conference 0-0, MASCAC 0-0)

            The Greyhounds began their 2006 outdoor season at the first day of the 2006 Lehigh Valley Games being hosted by DeSales University and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. Moravian had five competitors in the first day action at DeSales. Junior Kelly Applegate (Easton, PA/Wilson HS) placed second in the discus throw with a toss of 29.15 meters (95 feet, eight inches) while junior Tammy Balliet (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) was third in the hammer throw with a distance of 37.00 meters (121 feet, five inches). In the 5,000-meter run, senior Lauren Bahnatka (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) placed fifth in a time of 20:12.2 while freshman Kelly Williams (Tafton, PA/Wallenpaupack HS) was seventh in 20:31.10 and sophomore Katie Pullizano (Allentown, PA/William Allen HS) finished 11th in 21:04.6.

 

            Moravian had three individual event winners on the second day of the 2006 Lehigh Valley Games at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. Junior Erin Recker (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua HS) captured first place in the 100-meter dash in 12.72 seconds while junior Kathleen McCarron (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) won the triple jump with a leap of 10.26 meters (33 feet, six inches) and Applegate took first in the shot put with a toss of 12.04 meters (39 feet, six inches). Recker also placed third in the 200-meter dash in 27.09 seconds while McCarron was third in the long jump with a leap of 4.56 meters (14 feet, 11 3/4 inches). McCarron placed 11th in the 100-meter dash in 13.78 seconds.

 

            In other sprint results for the Greyhounds, junior Suzanne Tamlyn (Wappingers Falls, NY/Wallkill Valley HS) was tenth in the 200-meter dash in 27.93 seconds while freshman Katrina Birle (Westwood, MA/Westwood HS) took 20th in 30.40 seconds. Sophomore Theresa Zataveski (Quakertown, PA/Gwynedd-Mercy Academy HS) was tenth in the 400-meter dash in 1:10.25, and she placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.19 seconds. Junior Amy Reehill (Roselle, NJ/Roselle Catholic HS) was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:11.61.

 

            In the distance events on the second day of the meet, Tamlyn was 12th in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:42.75 while freshman Stephanie Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS) placed 11th in the 1,500 meters in 5:18.63. Moravian had four competitors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with Bahnatka leading the group with a fourth place finish in 12:15.44. Freshman Naomie Kachel (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin HS) was sixth in 12:31.77 while senior Alexis Vergalla (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees HS) took eighth in a time of 12:39.96 and junior Jennifer Connolly (Weare, NH/Manchester West HS) was ninth at 12:52.23.

 

            Zataveski was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 4.22 meters (13 feet, 10 1/2 inches), and she was tenth in the triple jump with a distance of 9.35 meters (30 feet, 8 1/4 inches). Reehil placed 12th in the high jump, clearing 1.39 meters (four feet, seven inches).

 

 

Women’s Lacrosse – 0-5 (MASCAC 0-2)

            Moravian dropped a 13-10 decision to Gwynedd-Mercy College in non-conference action on the HUB Quad in a match that saw Greyhound senior midfielder Jessica Cordani (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro HS) score her 100th career goal.  The Griffins jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Greyhounds scored three straight goals to take the lead. Gwynedd-Mercy tied the contest at 3-3, but Moravian netted two more goals for a 5-3 advantage. The Griffins scored the final two goals of the first half to tie the contest at 5-5 at the intermission. Gwynedd-Mercy scored the first four goals of the second half to take a lead it would not relinquish at 9-5. The Greyhounds would pull within one at 9-8 on three straight goals, the first of which was Cordani's fourth of the match and 100th of her career; however, the Griffins answered with three straight goals for a 12-8 advantage. Gwynedd-Mercy had a 36-20 advantage in shots and a 16-9 edge in draw controls while Moravian had a 41-17 advantage in ground balls. Cordani led the Greyhounds with five goals while junior midfielder Lindsey Lustrino (Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan HS) had four goals. Senior midfielder Kindal Estes (New Providence, NJ/New Providence HS) found the back of the cage once while sophomore attack Jessica Bodine (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) had the Greyhounds' lone assist. Estes and senior defender Lauren Johnston (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Upper Moreland HS) led Moravian with seven ground balls while Cordani had four caused turnovers and junior defender Jenna Abramson (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) won three draw controls. In goal, sophomore Laura Schantz (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) made nine saves.

 

            Moravian suffered a 16-6 loss at Susquehanna University in a Middle Atlantic Conference match. The Crusaders jumped out to an 11-2 halftime lead. Susquehanna also had a 37-15 advantage in shots, a 24-18 edge in ground balls and a 17-6 advantage in draw controls. For the Greyhounds, Lustrino scored four goals while Cordani netted two goals. Lustrino also had two draw controls for the Greyhounds and scored on all three of her free position shots. Schantz had 12 saves in the cage. Schantz, Johnston and senior defender Kristin Schol (West Chester, PA/Henderson HS) each had three ground balls.

            Moravian began its 2006 outdoor season at the first day of the 2006 Lehigh Valley Games being hosted by DeSales University and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. Moravian had five competitors in the first day action at DeSales with all five competing in the hammer throw. Junior Steve Kondorossy (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery HS) placed fourth with a toss of 37.10 meters (121 feet, nine inches) while sophomore Robert Bernadyn (Mahanoy City, PA/Mahanoy Area HS) was fifth at 34.11 meters (111 feet, 11 inches). Sophomore John Wagner (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley HS) finished eighth with a distance of 32.41 meters (106 feet, four inches) while junior Patrick Callahan (Matawan, NJ/Matawan HS) placed ninth at 32.25 meters (105 feet, ten inches) and freshman Blair Maginnis (Asbury, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) took 11th place with a toss of 27.88 meters (91 feet, six inches).

 

            The Greyhounds had a pair of first place finishers on the second day of the 2006 Lehigh Valley Games hosted at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. Sophomore Nathaniel Tussey (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown HS) captured the 110-meter high hurdles in an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 14.84 seconds while sophomore Ozzie Brown (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh HS) won the long jump with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying leap of 7.02 meters (23 feet, 1/2 inch). Tussey also placed third in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.22 seconds and sixth in the 100-meter dash in 11.64 seconds while Brown was second in the 200-meter dash in 22.41 seconds and fifth in the high jump at 1.85 meters (six feet, one inch).

 

            In other sprint results for Moravian, freshman Robert Shaffer (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville HS) was third in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.40 seconds, and he was eighth in the 200-meter dash in 23.08 seconds. Junior Josh Kline (Reading, NJ/Exeter HS) placed ninth in the 200-meter dash in 23.15 seconds, and Kline was fifth in the 400-meter dash at 51.92 seconds. Sophomore James Bell (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin HS) was tenth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.32 seconds while freshman Jeff Berland (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock HS) took 19th at 24.59 seconds. Berland also placed 12th in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.70 seconds. Sophomore Ty Kern (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin HS) was sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of 15.72 seconds, and he placed eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.23. Freshman Jared Henrie (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley HS) was 14th in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:04.48.

 

            Sophomore Timothy Pagano (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West HS) led Moravian in the distance events with a seventh place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:03.69. Freshman Timothy Murphy (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) placed ninth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:02.08 while senior Greg Rarick (Hazleton, PA/Drums HS) took 29th in the 1,500 meters in 4:21.72.

 

            Berland also competed in the long jump, placing 12th with a leap of 5.27 meters (17 feet, 3 1/2 inches). Senior Michael El Kazzaz (Easton, PA/Easton HS) placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.11 meters (13 feet, six inches) while freshman Alan Woods (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cedar Cliff HS) was seventh at 3.81 meters (12 feet, six inches).

 

            Sophomore Nathaniel Dutile (Plymouth, ME/Nokomis HS) paced the Greyhounds in the shot put with a toss of 14.14 meters (46 feet, five inches), which placed him second. Maginnis was sixth at 12.95 meters (42 feet, six inches) while Berland was 11th at 10.69 meters (35 feet, one inch) and Bernadyn placed 14th with a toss of 9.24 meters (30 feet, four inches). Senior Robert Kilmurray (Wall, NJ/Wall HS) placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 39.96 meters (131 feet, five inches) while Kondorossy took eight at 35.05 meters (115 feet). Bernadyn was 12th in the discus with a distance of 30.56 meters (100 feet, 3 1/2 inches). Junior Michael Ossont (Archbald, PA/Lackawanna HS) placed second in the javelin with a toss of 51.84 meters (170 feet, one inch) while freshman Justin Startcher (Greentown, PA/Wallenpaupack HS) took ninth at 45.93 meters (150 feet, 8 1/2 inches) and freshman John Muhlen (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS) finished tenth with a distance of 44.64 meters (146 feet, 5 1/2 inches).
