Women’s Basketball – 11-10 (Commonwealth
Conference 5-5, MASCAC 8-6)
Moravian suffered its third straight loss in
Commonwealth Conference action, falling to Albright College, 61-60, in a game
at Johnston Hall. The win was Albright's
second this season over Moravian after the Greyhounds had won the previous 12
games in the series. Moravian jumped out
to a 7-0 lead in the first half before the Lions got on the board at the 17:19
mark. The Greyhounds kept the lead until the 3:04 mark when Albright took the
lead. The Lions would hold onto the lead until the 8:11 mark of the second
half. Moravian trailed by just one point at half time as freshman guard Jessica Foran
(Annandale, NJ/Rutgers Prep HS) hit a three-pointer with 19 seconds left to
cut Albright's advantage to 30-29. The Greyhounds had the ball at the end of
the half but were unable to get a shot off. The Lions stretched their lead to
seven points at 45-38 with 11:23 to play before the Greyhounds went on a 9-0
run to take a 47-45 lead with 8:11 remaining. Foran tied the game with a pair
of free throws and added a lay-up for the lead. The Lions ran off five straight
points to take a 50-47 lead with 6:55 to play. Moravian came back and took a
53-52 advantage with 4:55 to play but a three-pointer gave Albright the lead
back. The Greyhounds tied the contest twice at 55-55 and again at 57-57 with 44
seconds to play on a pair of free throws by senior forward Jenny Hackleman (Arroyo
The Greyhounds dropped their fourth straight game,
falling to rival Muhlenberg College, 68-65. Moravian hadn't lost four straight
games since a four-game stretch from November 30th to December 9th 2000. The
loss also dropped the Greyhounds to 1-8 in road games this season. Moravian
jumped out to an 8-0 lead and led 10-2 after a jumper by
Moravian snapped its four-game losing streak and took
sole possession of third place in the Commonwealth Conference standings with a
76-62 victory over

The Greyhounds lost their third straight Commonwealth
Conference contest falling to Albright College, 87-73, in Johnston Hall. The
game remained close in the first half with neither team having a lead over six
points. Moravian's largest lead was 15-9 with 15:19 on the clock while the
Lions largest lead was three points, 27-24 with 5:45 to play before the
intermission. The teams went to the locker room tied at 35-35. The Greyhounds
were 12 of 30 from the field (40.0 percent), five of 12 behind the three-point
line and six of six at the foul line in the first half. The Greyhounds came out
of the locker room quickly in the second half and built an eight-point lead,
49-41, with 15:51 to play. Moravian maintained the lead for the next ten
minutes, up 66-61, with 6:37 remaining in the game. However, Albright went on a
10-0 run to take a 71-66 lead with 3:12 to play. Moravian would score just
seven points in the final three minutes of the game while the Lions scored 16
points including ten-for-ten at the foul line in the final 1:55. Moravian had
three players reach double figures in the game led by junior forward Chris Earley (
Moravian suffered its fourth straight loss, falling to
Susquehanna University, 76-70, in a Commonwealth Conference game in Johnston
Hall. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 6-2 lead before the Crusaders went on a
16-2 run to take an 18-8 lead with 14:30 remaining in the first half. Moravian
would cut Susquehanna's lead back to four points, 24-20, with 9:45 on the clock
but the Crusaders put together a 7-0 run to push their lead back to double
digits at 31-20 with 6:18 to play. Susquehanna would head to the locker room at
the intermission with a 43-28 lead. Moravian was ten for 27 (37.0 percent) from
the floor in the first half, two of nine on three-pointers and six of nine at
the foul line. The Greyhounds had a 24-17 advantage on the boards in the first
half; however, Moravian committed 18 turnovers to just six for Susquehanna. The
Crusaders kept their lead in double figures for the first five minutes of the
second half, leading 53-42 with 15:02 to play. Moravian slowly began to pull
back into the game, eventually getting within two points at 59-57 with 10:46
remaining in the game. The Crusaders pushed the lead back to seven points
before the Greyhounds got back within two points again at 70-68 with 3:34 on
the clock. Susquehanna netted their final six points at the line to win the
contest. The Greyhounds trailed just 73-70 with under a minute to play and had
four straight shots before Susquehanna could get a rebound. Moravian made 17 of
37 field goal attempts (45.9 percent) in the second half, two of 15
three-pointers and six of nine free throws. Moravian
did finish the contest with a 46-36 advantage in rebounds; however, the
Greyhounds had 25 turnovers in the game to just 17 for Susquehanna. Moravian
had three players in double figures led by Franzyshen with 15 points. Franzyshen also
grabbed seven rebounds. Earley had
11 points off the bench for the Greyhounds to go with four rebounds while Wenderfer had ten points and six
rebounds. Whitman grabbed a team
high nine rebounds for Moravian to go with seven points while Miller tossed in nine points to go
along with six rebounds and five assists. Devlin
had eight points and three rebounds for the Greyhounds while Jones scored four points with a pair of
assists. Clemente and freshman
forward Eric Weaver (Succasunna,
NJ/Roxbury HS) each had three points with Clemente adding four steals and three rebounds and Weaver grabbing four boards for
Moravian.

The Greyhounds had four top-five individual finishes and
one relay team place second as the team competed at the non-scoring 8th Annual
Dick DeSchriver Invitational hosted by East
Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. Freshman Dana Haslett (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge HS) placed second in the
55-meter dash in 7.34 seconds, just 0.01 seconds shy of the NCAA Division III
provisional qualifying standard. Senior Kathleen
McCarron (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth HS) finished
third in the long jump with a leap of 5.17 meters (16 feet, 11 1/2 inches)
while freshman Anna Heim (Moorestown,
NJ/Moorestown HS) was third in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.20
meters (ten feet, six inches). Senior Erin
Recker (
Haslett had a
time of 7.41 seconds in the preliminaries of the 55-meter dash to lead seven
Greyhound runners in the race. Recker
placed seventh in 7.61 seconds while Beck
was 11th in 7.64 seconds, McCarron placed 14th in 7.74 seconds, Reehil finished 21st in 7.86
seconds, freshman Queenie Tang (Bedminster, NJ/Chatham HS) took
23rd at 7.88 seconds and freshman Christine
Kihm (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown HS) was 36th in a

In the field events, Heim
was tied for sixth in the long jump at 5.00 meters (16 feet, five inches) while
freshman Rachel Riggs (Gettysburg,
PA/Gettysburg HS) was tied for 16th with a leap of 4.68 meters (15 feet, 4
1/4 inches). Riggs placed seventh in
the triple jump with a distance of 10.54 meters (34 feet, seven inches) while McCarron was
13th at 10.06 meters (33 feet, 1/4 inch) and Heim tied for 20th with a leap of 9.59 meters (31 feet, 5 3/4
inches). Posimo
was tied for 18th in the high jump, clearing 1.42 meters (four feet, eight
inches).
Freshman Rebeka Woolley (Point
Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro HS) took 19th in the shot put with a toss
of 10.54 meters (34 feet, seven inches) while senior Tammy Balliet (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS)
took 29th in the 20-pound weight throw with a distance of 10.53 meters (34
