Men’s Basketball – 10-2
(Landmark Conference 1-0)
Moravian returned to action after 23 days off with
their seventh consecutive victory, a 67-52 non-conference win over rival
Muhlenberg College in Johnston Hall. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 7-2 lead in
the first two minutes of the game and led 24-8 with 9:11 left in the first
half. However, Moravian went cold from the field and scored just four points
the rest of the half including no points in the final 5:14 while Muhlenberg
went on an 18-4 run to pull within 28-26 at halftime. The Greyhounds were nine
of 23 (39.1 percent) from the floor, three of 11 behind the three-point line
and seven of eight at the foul line in the first 20 minutes. Moravian had an
18-13 advantage in rebounds in the first half; however, the Greyhounds
committed 14 turnovers, more than the team's total in two games earlier this
season. Moravian started the second half
with a 14-2 run on three-pointers by freshman guard Maurice Young (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy), senior
forward Eric Whitman (Blairstown,
NJ/Notre Dame East Stroudsburg {PA} HS) and two by senior guard Ryan Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS) and
a lay-up by senior forward Mark Franzyshen (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata HS) to lead 42-28
with 16:34 remaining. The Greyhounds' lead would reach 21 points at 57-36 with
7:05 to play on a Miller jumper, and
the closest Muhlenberg would get was 12 points at 60-48 with 3:07 remaining.
Moravian's starters were on the bench with just under six minutes left in the
contest. The Greyhounds were 12 for 29 (41.4 percent), eight of 14 behind the
three-point line and seven of 12 at the foul line in the second half, and
Moravian had a 39-30 advantage in rebounds. The Greyhounds committed a season
high 25 turnovers, five more than any other contest this season. Moravian had a
balanced scoring attack with just two players reaching double figures and 12 of
14 players scoring at least one point. Miller
and Franzyshen
each had 11 points with Miller added
three rebounds and three steals while Franzyshen had three rebounds. Young and fellow freshman forward Chris Cullen (East Islip, NY/East Islip HS) each netted eight
points for the Greyhounds with Young
grabbing three rebounds. Senior forward Chris
Earley (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan HS) tossed in seven
points and grabbed a career high 11 rebounds to go with five assists and three
steals for Moravian while Whitman

room with a 34-25 lead, and the Greyhounds were 12 of 32 (37.5 percent) from
the floor in the first half, three of ten behind the three-point line and seven

the 30th Annual Greyhound Starters Classic in Johnston Hall. The win was Moravian's ninth straight,
equaling the longest streak for the program since a nine-game winning streak
during the 1975-76 season. It was also the Greyhounds' 13th tournament title in
the 30-year history of the tournament. Moravian has a 39-21 record in Greyhound
Starters Classic tournament games. Richard Stockton scored quickly to open the
game and would have an 8-2 lead at the 16:36 mark. The Greyhounds took their
