Men’s Basketball – 17-5 (Landmark
Conference 8-3)
Moravian
won its third straight Landmark Conference game and remained undefeated in
Johnston Hall this season at 10-0 with an 84-52 victory over the United States
Merchant Marine Academy in Landmark Conference action. The Greyhounds jumped
out to a 4-0 lead on baskets by freshman guard Maurice Young (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy) and senior
forward Mark Franzyshen
(Somerset, NJ/Immaculata HS) and would hold the lead the entire game.
Moravian pushed the lead into double digits for the remainder of the contest on
a jumper by senior guard Ryan Miller
(Easton, PA/Easton HS), which gave the Greyhounds a 24-13 edge with 4:22
left in the first half. Moravian went to the locker room with a 36-18 lead
after shooting 14 of 34 from the floor (41.2 percent), four of 11 at the foul
line and four of five at the foul line in the first 20 minutes. The Greyhounds
also had a 26-16 advantage in rebounds while committing just eight first half
turnovers. The Greyhounds pushed their lead to 20 points on a pair of free
throws by senior forward Chris Earley (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan HS) as the second half
started, and Moravian eventually led by 27 points, 70-43, with 7:31 left to
play when the starters began to head off the floor. The Greyhounds shot the
ball even better in the second half, making 16 of 28 field goal attempts (57.1
percent), three of eight three-pointers and 13 of 17 free throw attempts in the
