Men’s Basketball – 18-7 (Landmark
Conference 9-5)
Moravian
dropped its first home game of the season, falling to The University of
Scranton, 82-60, in a Landmark Conference regular season finale in Johnston
Hall. The Greyhounds had won their first 11 home games of the season. The two
teams will meet again in Johnston Hall on Wednesday, February 27th at 7:00 p.m.
in the Landmark Conference Semifinals as the Greyhounds are the second seed
while the Royals are the third seed. The other semifinal has top seed
Susquehanna University hosting fourth seed Juniata College. The Royals jumped
out to a 3-0 lead on the Greyhounds at the 19:33 mark and Scranton would lead
the entire way. Moravian's first bucket was a lay-up by senior forward Eric Whitman (Blairstown, NJ/Notre Dame
East Stroudsburg HS) to pull the Greyhounds within 3-2 at 18:58, but the
Royals went on a 17-2 run to build a 20-4 lead at the 14:12 mark. Moravian
would knock the Scranton lead to nine twice in the latter part of the first
half; however, Scranton would build a 17-point edge, 36-19, and head to the
locker room with a 38-23 lead. The Royals were 13 of 27 from the floor, five of
ten behind the three-point line and a perfect seven-for-seven at the foul line
in the first 20 minutes of the game, and Scranton had an 18-17 edge in rebounds
while committing just six turnovers. Moravian struggled shooting the ball in
the first half, making just nine of 30 field goal attempts (30 percent), three
of 11 three-pointers and two of four free throws. Scranton's lead would not dip
below 17 points in the second half and reached 30 points on two occasions, the
final time at 69-39 with 7:17 to player. The Royals were even hotter from the
field in the second half, making 12 of 23 field goal attempts, six of nine
three-pointers and 14 of 15 free throws. Scranton had just 12 turnovers for the
game while holding a 33-32 edge in rebounds. Moravian did shoot the ball better
in the second half as well, making 12 of 29 field goal attempts (41.4 percent),
five of 13 three-pointers and eight of ten free throws. Moravian had just two
players in double figures with senior guard Ryan Miller (Easton, PA/Easton HS) netting a game high 21 points to
go with five rebounds in the final regular season home game of his career. Miller now has 1,062 career points,
moving up to 16th in school history, and he added four more three-pointers to
push his school record career total to 156. Whitman was the only other Greyhound to reach double figures with
11 points and three rebounds. Senior forward Mark Franzyshen (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata HS)
had eight points and five rebounds while senior forward Chris Earley (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan HS)
added seven points, five rebounds, four assists and a pair of blocked shots for
Moravian. Freshmen guard Maurice Young
(Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy) and Ryan O'Donnell (Succasunna,
NJ/Roxbury HS) each had four points off of the bench for the Greyhounds while
freshman guard Steve Siracusa
(New Providence, NJ/New Providence HS) netted three points.
Men’s Lacrosse – 0-0 (Landmark Conference 0-0)

team will begin its 2008 season on Monday, February 25th in a
non-conference match versus Ursinus College beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field. The

Greyhound Weekly Update, February
25, 2008 (-3333-)
Women’s Basketball – 16-9
(Landmark Conference 9-5)
Moravian dropped its final home game
of the 2007-08 regular season falling to The
University of Scranton, 92-85, in double overtime in Johnston Hall. Moravian,
which played against Scranton without starting forward Kirsty Stearns (East Norwich, NY/Oyster Bay HS) who was injured in
practice on Thursday, jumped out to a 4-0 lead on baskets by senior guard LaToya Blake (Allentown, PA/Dieruff
HS) and sophomore forward Alyssa
Bisci (Easton, PA/Easton HS). The Royals would tie the game at 4-4 at the
16:34 mark. Scranton would take its first lead of the game on a jumper with
15:36 to play in the first half. The game went back-and-forth for the next four
minutes with the Greyhounds tying the game at 13-13 and pulling ahead 14-13 on
a pair of free throws from sophomore guard Kate
Harrison (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor HS) with 11:50 until
the intermission. Moravian would hold a lead for the next 18 minutes of the
game. Greyhound sophomore guard Amanda
Brown (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Schuylkill Haven HS) connected on a
three-pointer with 6:22 to go in the first half to give Moravian its largest
lead of the first half, 11 points 30-19, and the Greyhounds would head to the
locker room with a 38-28 advantage. Moravian connected on 13 of 30 field goal
attempts (43.3 percent), two of four three-pointers and ten of 11 free throws
in the first 20 minutes of the contest. The Greyhounds did commit ten turnovers
in the first half but forced Scranton into 15 turnovers. Bisci scored the first points of the second half from Moravian,
giving the Greyhounds a 12-point lead, 40-28, their largest of the game at the
18:22 mark. Scranton would go on an 18-6 run to tie the contest at 46-46 with
13:12 remaining. Brown hit another
three-pointer to give Moravian a brief lead again but the Royals would move
ahead with 12:05 remaining in regulation. With the Greyhounds trailing 52-49,
Moravian went on an 11-3 run pull ahead by seven points, 60-53, on a free throw
by freshman guard/forward Emily Smith
(East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South HS) with 4:49 to play. The
Royals would run off six straight points to cut the Greyhound advantage to just
a point, 60-59, with 2:20 to go. However, the Greyhounds would build a
five-point lead, 67-62, with 41 seconds remaining on a free throw by Brown. A three-pointer with 33 seconds
to go to cut the Moravian lead to 67-65, and a Greyhound turnover on the team's
next possession allowed Scranton to hit a lay-up with 11 seconds remaining to
tie the game at 67-67. Brown put the
Greyhounds back in the lead with a pull-up jumper with five seconds to play.
Scranton would call a timeout with 4.9 seconds remaining in regulation, and
after the timeout, the Royals would dribble down the court and hit the tying
jump shot. The shot appeared to come after the buzzer but was ruled good by the officials, who also ruled the Scranton player’s
foot was on the three-point line, tying the contest at 69-69 and forcing the
overtime session. The Greyhounds were 12 of 32 from the floor (37.5 percent),
one of one on three-pointers and just six of 11 at the foul line. Moravian
entered the game as the seventh ranked free throw shooting team in the nation
at 75.4 percent. Scranton needed just 15 seconds into the first overtime to take
a 71-69 lead on a jumper. However, Moravian would hit four free throws, two
each by Brown and Harrison, to pull ahead 73-71 with 3:54
to go. A Royal three-point play at the 3:35 mark to put Scranton ahead again,
74-73. Moravian responded with a pair of Bisci
free throws and a Smith lay-up to
take a 77-74 lead with 2:11 to play in the first overtime. Fabio would connect
on three of four free throws for Scranton to tie the game for the 12th time at
77-77 with 43 seconds remaining. However, the Greyhounds pulled back out in
front on a jumper by Harrison with
18 seconds left in the overtime session. Scranton would get a pair of shots off
in the final five seconds before the ball went out of bounds off of the
Greyhounds with 1.4 seconds to play. The inbound pass found an open Royal driving through the lane, and the jumper fell through
the rim as time expired, tying the contest against at 79-79 and forcing another
five-minute overtime period. By this point of the game, Moravian, already
playing without Stearns, and had two
other starters, Blake and sophomore
guard Jessica Foran
(Annandale, NJ/Rutgers Prep HS), foul out of the contest with Blake fouling out with 2:20 to go in
regulation. At the start of the second overtime, Scranton scored five straight
points as the Royals jumped out to an 84-79 lead. Moravian would pull within
two points, 84-82, on a Brown
three-pointer with 2:48 to play, but Scranton would prove to be too much after Harrison foul out for the Greyhounds,
leaving Bisci as the only normal
starter on the floor. Moravian was just four of 15 (26.7 percent) from the
field, two of seven behind the three-point line and a perfect six-for-six at
the foul line in the two overtimes. Moravian would finish the game with four
players in double figures led by Harrison,
who had career highs of 22 points and nine rebounds to go along with three
assists and a pair of blocked shots. Brown
tossed in 19 points while Smith
netted a career best 18 points to go along with a career high nine rebounds,
three steals and two assists. Bisci
finished the game with 14 points and nine boards for the Greyhounds while
freshman forward Amie Ballo (Andes, NY/Andes Central) HS had five rebounds,
four points and two blocked shots off of the bench. Foran, who entered the game as
Moravian's leading scorer at 13.3 points per game, was limited to four points,
all at the foul line, in just 22 minutes. Blake
had two points, two rebounds and a career high seven steals in 23 minutes of
action while sophomore forward Lauren Fornazor (Rivervale, NJ/Pascack Valley HS) had six rebounds and two points in
