Football – 6-3 (Centennial Conference 4-3)
Moravian had its bye week last week as the Greyhounds
prepare for their 2007 regular season finale against rival Muhlenberg College
on Saturday, November 10th in Allentown. The game will mark the first time in 25 years
that the two schools have competed in the game as members of the same
conference with Moravian joining the Centennial Conference this season.
Women’s Soccer – 15-5-1
(Landmark Conference 5-1)
The second-seeded Greyhounds earned a berth in the
first-ever Landmark Conference Tournament Championship match with a 2-0 shutout
of third seed The Catholic University of America in a semifinal contest on the
HUB Quad. Moravian junior goalie Caitlin
Corrigan (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) made four
saves, all in the second half, for her 11th shutout of the season, extending
her school career mark with her 26th career shutout. The Greyhounds would give
Corrigan all of the offense she needed in the eighth minute when senior
midfielder Jill Newswanger
(Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove HS) tapped in a corner kick by senior midfielder
Allison Solomita
(Chatham, NJ/Chatham HS) for Newswanger's third goal of the season. Solomita took the kick from the
left corner while Newswanger
hit the shot in on the back right side of the net. Moravian would add a second
goal in the first half when senior forward Tracy
Fitzpatrick (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional HS) netted
her team leading 13th goal of the season on a penalty kick. The Cardinals
finished the match with a 10-9 advantage in shots while the Greyhounds had a
5-4 edge in corner kicks. Both teams each had a shot the either hit the cross
bar or the post during the contest.
Second seeded Moravian fell to top seed The University of
Scranton, 4-2, in the 2007 Landmark Conference Championship match. Scranton
needed just two minutes to take a 1-0 lead in the inaugural Landmark Conference
Championship match. The Royals then extended the lead to 2-0 in the 17th
minute. Moravian would cut the score in half in the 48th minute when Greyhound
sophomore forward Alessandra Valdetara (Butler, NJ/Butler HS) netted her fifth goal
of the season off of an assist from Solomita. Scranton would build a 4-1 lead with a pair of
goals in a five-minute span in the 54th and 59th minutes.
Moravian finished off the scoring in the 79th minute when Fitzpatrick netted her 14th goal of the season on a penalty kick,
the second straight match Fitzpatrick
had scored on a penalty kick. The Greyhounds dominated the offensive statistics
in the match, holding a 21-10 advantage in shots and a 10-4 edge in corner
kicks. Corrigan had three saves
while giving up four goals for just the second time in her career. The other
time was the 2005 Commonwealth Conference Championship match in a 4-0 loss to
eventual NCAA Division III National Champion Messiah College.

Landmark Conference Tournament that begins on Wednesday. The Greyhounds will host third seed The
Catholic University of America at 3:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad.

Conference Defensive Player of the Week and has won the award four times this
season including this week, has set the school record with 25 career
shutouts.
