This Week –Sat., Feb. 21st at University of Scranton*, 7:30 p.m. *Landmark Conference game

Sophomore forward Chris Cullen (East Islip, NY/East Islip) scored a career high 22 points to lead Moravian to an 85-66 victory over Marywood University in non-conference action.
Moravian improves to 9-13 on the season with its second straight victory while the Pacers saw their four-game winning streak snapped with the loss and fall to 15-8.
Moravian built a five-point lead over the first five minutes of the game and following a lay-up from Marywood’s Matthew Medici, the Greyhounds went on an 8-1 run over the next five minutes to claim an 18-9 advantage with 10:46 to play in the opening half.
Moravian stretched its lead to as many as 17 points in the first half on a lay-up by freshman guard Shane Painter (
Bedminster, NJ/Bernards) lay-up with 3:14 remaining in the opening period and took a 39-23 lead into the locker room.
The Greyhounds had a hot shooting hand in the first 20 minutes of the game, making 16 of 32 field goal attempts (50 percent), three of ten three-pointers and four of five free throws.  On the other hand, the Pacers struggled shooting the ball, making just eight of 35 field goal attempts (22.9 percent), one of 13 three-pointers and six of nine free throws in the first 20 minutes.
Marywood’s Chadli Charlot scored the first six points of the second half, but Moravian was able to extend their advantage to 51-35 on a lay-up from junior forward Eric Weaver (
Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) with 15:31 to play.  The Pacers went on a 7-2 run to narrow the deficit to 11 points with 10:44 to play following a Prince Blacknall three-pointer.
The two teams swapped baskets over the next three minutes and another Blacknall three-pointer with 7:32 remaining put the score at 64-54 in favor of the Greyhounds, but the Pacers were unable to come any closer.
Moravian continued its strong shooting in the second half, connecting on 17 of 35 field goal attempts (48.6 percent), two of eight three-pointers and ten of 14 free throws in the final 20 minutes.  The Greyhounds also finished the game with a 47-36 edge in rebounds while both teams committed ten turnovers.  Marywood shot the ball much better in the second half, making 16 of 31 shots from the floor (51.6 percent), four of nine three-pointers and seven of ten free throws.
Cullen led all scorers with his 22 points to go along with seven rebounds and a pair of blocked shots while Weaver tossed in 17 points and grabbed seven boards.  Freshman guard Sergio Camacho (

The Gophers improve to 6-15 overall and 4-8 in Landmark Conference action with the victory while the Greyhounds drop to 9-14 overall and 4-8 in conference play as well.  Moravian was still alive for the final spot in the 2009 Landmark Conference Tournament heading into the contest but was eliminated with the loss.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a pair of free throws from junior forward Eric Weaver and a jumper from sophomore forward Chris Cullen in the first 1:06 of the game.  However, Moravian would not score again until the 10:57 mark on a lay-up from freshman guard Shane Painter to cut Goucher’s lead to 13-6 and ending a 13-0 Gopher run.
Goucher would eventually put its lead into double digits, 21-11 with 5:30 remaining in the first half on a jumper from freshman guard Shane Yambor.  The Gophers would get their largest lead of the half just 16 seconds later on another jumper from Yambor.

The Greyhounds would put together a 15-5 run to pull back within seven points at 5:32 to go play on a jumper from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso but that was as close as Moravian could get the rest of the way.
Both teams shot the ball very well in the second half.  Goucher was 15 of 28 from the floor (53.6 percent), two-for-two behind the three-point line and seven of eight at the foul line in the final 20 minutes.  Moravian was 18-for-35 on field goal attempts (51.4 percent), one of nine on three-pointers and seven of nine at the foul line in the second half while both teams finished the game with 42 rebounds.  The Greyhounds committed 19 turnovers in the game while Goucher had 17 turnovers.

The victory lifts Moravian to 10-14 overall and 5-8 in Landmark Conference action as the Greyhounds were playing their final home game of the 2008-09 season.  Catholic drops to 16-8 overall and 7-6 in conference action with the loss, but the Cardinals still clinched a berth in the Landmark Conference Tournament on Sunday with Juniata College falling in overtime to the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
Moravian would lead the entire contest, scoring first the first seven points on a three-pointer and jumper from sophomore guard Charlie Rigoglioso and a lay-up by Young in the first 3:26 of the game.  The Greyhounds would lead by 17 points, 21-4, after a Young three-point play at the 12:10 mark, and Moravian’s largest lead of the first half, 43-20, came on a pair of Young free throws with 36 seconds to play.

Banzhaf’s bucket started a 17-4 run that would see the Cardinals pull within eight points, 82-74, on a three-pointer from sophomore guard R.J. Dixon with 2:39 to play.  Moravian would hit all seven of its free throws in the final 1:44 to keep Catholic from getting any closer than seven points.
Both teams had a hot shooting touch in the second half with the Greyhounds connecting on 15 of 27 field goal attempts (55.6 percent), three of seven three-pointers and 15 of 18 free throws in the final 20 minutes.  Moravian also had a 37-32 advantage in rebounds for the game while committing just 11 turnovers.  Catholic was 20 of 32 from the floor (62.5 percent), four of eight on three-pointers and 16 of 21 at the foul line in the second half and made just four turnovers in the final 20 minutes for a total of 12 in the game.
