Greyhound Weekly Update, March 30, 2009 (-2222-)

 

Men’s Track and Field -- 0-0 (Landmark Conference 0-0)

Moravian opened the 2009 outdoor season with a third place finish at the Lafayette College 8-Way meet run on the Greyhounds' own track due to construction at Lafayette. Moravian scored 126 points, trailing just NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvannia, which won the meet with 148.5 points, and NCAA Division I St. Joseph's University, which had 129 points.

The Greyhounds had three individual winners with senior Nathaniel Tussey (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown Area) winning the 110-meter high hurdles in an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying time of 14.49 seconds, and the 400-meter hurdles in an ECAC qualifying time of 54.33 seconds. Sophomore Eric Woodruff (Brodheadsville, PA/Pius X) captured the 200-meter dash in an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying time of 21.46 seconds. Woodruff also placed second in the 100-meter dash in an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying time of 10.76 seconds while Tussey was third in the 400-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 49.98 seconds.

In other top ten spring results, sophomore Warner Jones (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) placed third in the 200-meter dash in 22.46 seconds, missing the ECAC qualifying time by one-hundredth of a second, and he was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 50.30 seconds and seventh in the 100-meter dash in 11.12 seconds. Freshman Kyle D'Angelo (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) was tenth in the 200-meter dash in 23.27 seconds. Junior Michael Blenk (Inwood, NY/Lawrence) was sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles in an ECAC qualifying time of 15.76 seconds while freshman Steve Ambrosi (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.52 seconds. Moravian's 4x400-meter relay team of Jones, sophomore Connor Skutches (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty), junior Steve Parisi (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) and sophomore Jacob Tazik (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) was fourth in an ECAC qualifying time of 3:25.63.

In the distance races, sophomore Connor Skutches (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) took third in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:57.27 while senior Timothy Murphy (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) was fourth in 1:58.07 and junior Steve Parisi (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) finished ninth in 1:59.64. Senior Jeremiah Reinhart (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) took sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:01.39 while freshman Zach Rivenbark (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) placed ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:56.32.

In field results, senior Alan Woods (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cedar Cliff) placed second in the pole vault, clearing an ECAC qualifying height of 4.40 meters (14 feet, 5 1/4 inches). Freshman Timothy Layng (Canton, PA/Canton) was third at the same height but more attempts. Blenk finished second in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 6.77 meters (22 feet, 2 1/2 inches), and he was fifth in the triple jump at 12.95 meters (42 feet, six inches).

Senior Blair Maginnis (Asbury, NJ/Warren Hills Regional) took second in the shot put with an ECAC qualifying toss of 14.90 meters (48 feet, 10 3/4 inches), and Maginnis was sixth in the hammer throw at 47.46 meters (155 feet, eight inches) and seventh in the discus with a toss of 37.31 meters (122 feet, five inches). Junior Matthew Wisotsky (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) was eighth in the discus throw at 35.02 meters (114 feet, 11 inches) while junior Christian Seebode (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) took tenth at 32.24 meters (105 feet, nine inches). Senior Justin Starcher (Greentown, PA/Wallenpaupack) placed seventh in the javelin throw with a toss of 50.96 meters (167 feet, two inches).

Moravian scored 124 points, finishing eight and a half points ahead of runner-up NCAA Division I St. Joseph's University, which had 115.5 points.

The Greyhounds had four individual and one relay champion with junior Jessica Posimo (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) capturing the 100-meter hurdles in an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying time of 14.92 seconds and the long jump with an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying distance of 5.52 meters (18 feet, 1 1/2 inches). Junior Anna Heim (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) won the pole vault, clearing an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying height of 3.65 meters (11 feet, 11 3/4 inches) while sophomore Sydni Wisniewski (Orlando, FL/Winter Park) won the 400-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 58.76 seconds. Moravian's 4x100-meter relay squad of Posimo, Wisniewski and juniors Symonne Scott (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) and Rachel Riggs (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) posted an ECAC qualifying time of 48.70 seconds while winning the race.

In other top ten sprint results, Wisniewski was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 25.74 seconds while Posimo took fourth in an ECAC qualifying time of 26.23 seconds. Scott placed second in the 100-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 12.63 seconds, and she was third in the 200-meter dash with another ECAC qualifying time of 26.03 seconds. Riggs placed seventh in the 100-meter dash in 13.05 seconds, and she was eighth in the 200-meter dash in 26.65 seconds. Sophomore Mallory Goggins (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Friends) took fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.24 while sophomore Alyssa Wert (Orefield, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) was eighth in 1:06.43 and senior Stephanie Miller (Easton, PA/Easton) was ninth in a time of 1:07.71. Sophomore Shannon McEvoy (Lafayette, NJ/High Point Regional) tied for tenth in the 100-meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 16.18 seconds.

Senior Naomie Kachel (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 13:25.36 as the Greyhounds' only top ten finisher in the distance events.

In other field results, Posimo placed ninth in the high jump, clearing 1.55 meters (five feet, one inch) while Riggs was fourth in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 5.30 meters (17 feet, 4 3/4 inches). Sophomore Alezandra Lopez (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan) was sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.08 meters (16 feet, eight inches). Riggs also took third in the triple jump with a leap of 10.84 meters (35 feet, 6 3/4 inches) while McEvoy placed eighth at 10.30 meters (33 feet, 9 1/2 inches).

Sophomore Kaleen Holden (Scranton, PA/Bishop Hannan) placed third in the javelin throw with an ECAC qualifying toss of 35.56 meters (116 feet, eight inches) while sophomore Mary King (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) was fourth with an ECAC qualifying distance of 35.31 meters (115 feet, ten inches). Junior Aliina Ross (Paoli, PA/Conestoga) was seventh in the javelin at 32.54 meters (106 feet, nine inches) while junior Flora Robertson (Hawley, PA/East Stroudsburg North) placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 42.13 meters (138 feet, three inches). Freshman Brittany Moses (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) was fourth in the discus throw with an ECAC qualifying toss of 36.37 meters (119 feet, four inches) while freshman Anne Joseph (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) took ninth in the shot put at 10.50 meters (34 feet, 5 1/2 inches).

Men’s Lacrosse -- 4-6 (Landmark Conference 1-1)

Junior midfielder Robert Devine netted five goals and added three assists to lead Moravian to a 15-7 non-conference victory over Immaculata University at Rocco Calvo Field.

Greyhound junior attack Christopher Danni started the scoring in the first quarter, and Moravian led 3-1 after 15 minutes with two of Devine’s goals.  The Greyhounds would score the next 11 goals in the match to lead 9-1 at halftime and 14-2 after 45 minutes.  Moravian had a 38-35 edge in shots, a 34-29 advantage in ground balls and won 15 of 26 face-offs.

Devine had two ground balls to go with his eight points while Danni contributed four goals and two assists for six points.  Junior attack Jason Tosches added three goals and an assist for the Greyhounds while sophomore attack David Bennett (Easton, PA/Easton) had four assists.  Sophomore midfielder David Forte (Chester, NJ/West Morris Mendham) and freshmen midfielders Joseph Perrino (Wall, NJ/Wall) and Jesse Peterson (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) each had goals.

Freshman midfielder Zachary Stein (Schnecksville, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had a team high six ground balls for Moravian while winning 11 of 17 face-offs.  Senior defender Steven Carroll (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) had four ground balls and caused three turnovers while sophomore defender Michael Santos (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) had four ground balls.

Senior goalie Benjamin Larson (Dover, DE/Dover) started for the Greyhounds, making five saves in 39 and a half minutes of action.  Sophomore keeper Benjamin Leavy (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) added six saves in the final 20 and a half minutes. 

Senior attack Christopher Danni and sophomore attack David Bennett each scored four goals to lead Moravian to its first-ever Landmark Conference win, a 14-8 victory at Susquehanna University.

Moravian dropped all six of its Landmark Conference matches in the inaugural season in 2008 and its first conference contest this season before the victory.  The match also started an hour late as the Greyhounds were delayed travelling to Selinsgrove.

Sophomore midfielder David Forte gave the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead two and a half minutes into the first quarter.  Greg Norris tied the match for the Crusaders just 30 seconds later.  Moravian then ran off six straight goals to lead 7-1 after 15 minutes of action.  Susquehanna would score five of the six goals in the second quarter to cut Moravian’s advantage to 8-6 at halftime.  The Greyhounds then had 3-1 advantages in goals in both the third and fourth quarters.  Moravian had a 35-26 advantage in shots while Susquehanna had a 38-32 edge in ground balls and won 16 of 26 face-offs.

Danni had two ground balls to go with hit four goals.  Senior attack Jason Tosches added two goals and two assists for the Greyhounds while freshman attack Christopher Mohapp (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) netted two goals.  Freshman midfielder Zachary Stein had a goal and six ground balls for Moravian while winning ten of 24 face-offs. 

Freshman midfielder Jesse Peterson (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville), freshman attack Jacob Harris and sophomore midfielder Robert Devine each had assists for the Greyhounds.  Senior defender Steven Carroll added six ground balls.

Senior goalie Benjamin Larson had ten saves and a team high eight ground balls for Moravian.  Bill Davis started in goal for Susquehanna and made one save in 21 minutes of action.  Anthony Maiorella had six saves in 35 minutes of action for the Crusaders.

Women’s Lacrosse -- 4-4 (Landmark Conference 0-1)

Junior midfielder/defender Katie Wise scored a career high five goals and added an assist to lead Moravian to a 15-9 non-conference win over Wilkes University on the HUB Quad.

Sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) scored just 37 seconds into the match to give the Greyhounds a lead they would never relinquish.  Moravian led 7-1 with under three minutes to go in the first half when the Colonels scored twice to pull within 7-3 at halftime.  The Greyhounds scored two quick goals in the second half before Wilkes scored four goals in a row to cut Moravian’s lead to 9-7.  The Greyhounds responded by scoring six of the next seven goals to secure the team’s third straight win.

Moravian had a 40-38 edge in shots, although Wilkes held a 26-17 advantage in the second half.  The Greyhounds also had a 33-26 edge in ground balls while the Colonels had an 18-8 advantage in draw controls.

Wise had five ground balls, three draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers to go with her six points while senior attack Georgia Castellano (Cherry Hills, NJ/Cherry Hill West) added three goals and two assists for five points.  Sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) netted three goals and had three ground balls for the Greyhounds while Carman has two goals and an assists with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Sophomore attack Shannon Algeo (Spring-Ford, PA/Spring-Ford) netted her first two goals of the season for Moravian while freshman attack Allison Hess (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) had an assist.  Sophomore midfielder Angel Genther (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) have five ground balls for the Greyhounds while junior midfielder Brittany Deiling (Chews Landing, NJ/Triton Regional) had four ground balls.

Moravian junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional) had 16 saves for the Greyhounds.  Wilkes used two goalies with freshman Cassie Cronin making 11 saves in 42 and a half minutes of action and freshman Allie Zukuft adding four saves.

Junior attack Jillian Pagliei scored a match high four goals including three in the first half as Moravian built an early lead and held on for a 9-8 non-conference win at Bryn Mawr College for the Greyhounds fourth straight win.

Bryn Mawr scored first on an eight-meter shot by Katie Kellom.  Moravian would then score seven of the next eight goals to head into halftime with a 7-2 lead.  Bryn Mawr pulled within a goal at 7-6 just over ten minutes into the second half before Pagliei’s final goal and a tally from sophomore attack Shannon Algeo put the Greyhounds up 9-6 with just under 17 minutes remaining.  Bryn Mawr did close within a goal again but with just 15 seconds to play.  Moravian finished the match with a 25-24 edge in shots, a 29-26 advantage in ground balls and a 9-8 edge in draw controls.

Pagliei and sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers led Moravian with four points with Helfers netting two goals and adding two assists.  Freshman attack Allison Hess had a goal and two assists while sophomore midfielder Sarah Carman added a goal as did Algeo.  Senior attack Georgia Castellano and junior midfielder Katie Wise each had one assist. 

Wise led the Greyhounds with seven ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls while Helfers had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Sophomore midfielder Angel Genther (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) had three draw controls for Moravian while Castellano had four ground balls.

Sophomore goalie Courtney Rosenberg made 15 saves for the Greyhounds.  Bryn-Mawr keeper Miranda Gordon-Zigel had 11 saves in the match.

The 13th-ranked The Catholic University of America posted an 18-4 victory over Moravian to open the 2009 Landmark Conference season and snap the Greyhounds’ four-match winning streak.

The Cardinals scored first on a goal from Kate Narzikul just 37 seconds into the game.  Moravian junior attack Jillian Pagliei tied the match about a minute later before Catholic scored three straight goals.  The Cardinals scored the final 11 goals of the first half to take a 15-2 lead at halftime.  Catholic then scored the first three goals of the second half.  The Cardinals had a 32-10 advantage in shots, a 44-24 edge in ground balls and a 13-4 advantage in draw controls.

Pagliei scored two goals for the Greyhounds while senior midfielder Katie Wise and freshman attack Allison Hess each scored goals.  Junior midfielder Paige Warbrick added an assist while returning from an injury for Moravian.  Senior attack Georgia Castellano had a team high five ground balls for the Greyhounds while sophomore midfielder Maureen Helfers had a pair of draw controls.

Junior goalie Courtney Rosenberg had seven saves and four ground balls.  Melissa Brashear had two saves in just over 46 minutes of action for the Cardinals while Gabby Sena and Caitlin Farley each had one save.

 

 


Greyhound Weekly Update, March 30, 2009 (-7777-)

Baseball -- 13-9 (Landmark Conference 6-2)

The visiting Montclair State University baseball team posted a 10-1 non-conference win over Moravian at Gillespie Field.

The Red Hawks scored twice in the top of the second inning for a 2-0 lead on RBI singles from Kevin Miller and Jay Bionde.  Montclair State added six more runs in the top of the third inning to push the lead to 8-0.   Mickey McGraw had an RBI single while Michael Boggi had a two RBI doubled.  Michael Kaminski added an RBI field’s choice while Scott Evangelist had a two-RBI double in the inning.

The Red Hawks scored their final two runs in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run home run to deep left center field by Boggi.

Moravian scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Freshman outfielder Eric Volpe (Media, PA/Penncrest) reached on a fielder’s choice with two outs, stole second base and scored on a pinch hit triple by senior Thomas Czarnecki (Columbia, NJ/North Warren).

Montclair State had an 11-6 advantage in hits with Boggi going three-for-three with four RBIs.  Bionde added two hits.  Freshman designated hitter Joe Bartolacci (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) was two-for-three for the Greyhounds.

Moravian used six pitchers in the game with sophomore Luke Skutches (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) taking the loss, allowing eight runs, five of them earned, on eight hits and three walks in three innings of action.  Junior Andrew DeLio (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) tossed two innings, allowing two runs on a hit and three walks with one strikeout out.  Junior Dustin Pflug (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson), senior Thomas Murray (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic), junior Joe Melchionna (Marlboro, NJ/St. John Vianney) and junior Brandon Palmisano (Mountainhome, PA/Pius X) each tossed an inning for the Greyhounds.

The Haverford College baseball team scored the final four runs to break a 7-7 tie and earn an 11-7 non-conference win over Moravian at Gillespie Field as the Greyhounds suffered their third straight loss.

The Fords jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on RBI singles from senior outfielder Dean Laganosky and sophomore shortstop/pitcher Charlie Carluccio.

Moravian would tie the game in the bottom of the first inning.  Senior outfielder Eric Shea (Madison, NJ/Morristown Beard) drew a walk and stole second.  Senior outfielder Joseph Durso hit a one-out RBI double to score Shea, and after stealing third, Durso scored on an RBI sacrifice fly from freshman first baseman Kevin O’Keefe.

Haverford retook the lead in the top of the second inning, 3-2, on an RBI ground out from senior outfielder Evan Tibbetts.  The Fords added three more runs in the top of the third inning for a 6-2 lead.  Freshman catcher Jeremy Zoll had an RBI single while Carluccio scored on a double play and Zoll crossed the plate on an error. 

The Greyhounds answered with three runs in the bottom of the third inning to pull within a run, 6-5.  Shea again started the inning with a walk and a steal of second base.  Sophomore shortstop Jason Huber followed with an RBI double to score Shea before Durso connected on his second RBI double of the game scoring HuberDurso moved to third on a fly out from O’Keefe before scoring on an RBI single from junior outfielder Brad Bodine (Mt. Bethel, PA/Bangor).

The Fords scored a run in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly from Carluccio for a 7-5 lead.

Moravian tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth inning.  Freshman catcher Blake Shortall (Kintnersville, PA/Freedom) led off the inning with a single, and Shea singled with one out.  Two batters later, Durso hit his team leading 14th double of the season, this time a two-RBI double scoring Shortall and SheaDusro already owns the school record for doubles and RBIs in a career, now with 43 doubles and 104 RBIs.

Haverford would take the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run home run from senior outfielder Chris Dooley to build a 9-7 lead.  The Fords added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning on a two-RBI double from Carluccio.

Haverford had a 13-12 edge in hits in the game with Carluccio going three-for-four with four RBIs.  Laganosky and junior second baseman Jake Kaden each had two hits for the Fords.  Durso led the Greyhounds with three hits, all doubles to tie the school record for doubles in a game for the second time this season, while Huber and Bodine each had two hits. Shea tied the school mark with four stolen bases in the game to move into third in school history with 33 stolen bases.

Moravian used six pitchers in the game with junior Philip Spence tossed the four innings, allowing seven runs, just three of them earned, eight hits and a walk with one strikeout.  Junior Andrew DelRossi (Medford, NJ/Bishop Eustace) tossed an inning while junior Zack Andes (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on three hits.  Senior Thomas Murray and juniors Joe Melchionna and Ryan Cummings all tossed an inning with Melchionna allowing two unearned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and Cummings striking out one batter.

The Greyhounds rallied for three runs with two outs in the bottom of the sevneth inning to post a 3-2 victory over The University of Scranton in the first game of a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Gillespie Field. The win also snapped a three-game losing streak for Moravian.

The Royals took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the first game.  Sophomore Chris Stallone led off with a single and scored on an RBI double from junior Chris Bligh.

Scranton would extend its lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning when David Giglio led off with a double and scored on an RBI single from freshman Rocky Sawyer.

The Greyhounds were down to their final out before the Moravian offense would get things going.  With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, senior second baseman Kevin Gambrino doubled to right center field.  Senior outfielder Eric Shea reached on a dropped fly ball that allowed Gambrino to score.  Sophomore shortstop Jason Huber nearly ended the game when hit line drive to left field hit the top of the wall for an RBI double to score Shea.  Senior outfielder Joseph Durso, Moravian’s all-time leader in RBIs, then hit a game-winning RBI single through the left side of the infield to score Huber to cap the two-out, three-run rally.  The RBI was the 105th of Durso’s career.

The Greyhounds had an 8-6 edge in hits with Huber going three-for-four.  Shea also had two hits for Moravian.

On the mound, freshman Brendan Close improved to 4-1 on the season, allowing two runs on six hits with nine strikeouts.  Senior Kyle Fox took the loss for Scranton, allowing three unearned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out nine Greyhounds.

Moravian held off a seventh inning rally by visiting The University of Scranton to earn a 6-5 win in the second game of a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Gillespie Field to sweep the twinbill.

Scranton again took an early lead in the first inning, scoring twice in the top of the first in game two.  Sophomore Chris Stallone led off with a single and scored on an RBI single from senior Charles Comprelli, and junior Chris Bligh had an RBI ground out to score Comprelli.

Moravian would cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third inning.  Senior outfielder Eric Shea reached on a throwing error to lead off the inning, and he stole second base.  Shea moved to third on a deep fly ball from sophomore shortstop Jason Huber before scoring on n RBI sacrifice fly from freshman designated hitter Joe Bartolacci.

The Greyhounds tied the game at 2-2 an inning later in the bottom of the fourth.  Freshman catcher Austin Rock singled to start the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior second baseman Kevin GambrinoAfter Rock moved to third on a failed pickoff attempt, Shea hit an RBI single to chase Rock home.

Moravian would take the lead, 3-2, with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Bartolacci reached on an error with one out and sophomore Kirk Pastre came in to pinch run.  Pastre moved to second on a passed ball, and after a dropped foul ball down the right field line, junior outfielder Brad Bodine hit an RBI single to score Pastre.

The Greyhounds added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 6-2 lead.  Gambrino reached on an infield single with one out and Shea walked.  Huber connected on an RBI single to score Gambrino.  Senior outfielder Joseph Durso then followed with his school record tying 15th double of the season, tying his own mark, to drive in Shea and Huber.  Durso also owns the school career mark for doubles, now 44, and pushed his RBI mark to 106.

Scranton attempted its own rally in the top of the seventh inning of the second game, scoring three runs to cut the Moravian lead to 6-5 and leaving the bases loaded.  Stallone had a two RBI single in the inning for the Royals while third run scored on a Moravian error.  Scranton had a 9-7 edge in hits in the game with Stallone, Comprelli and Chris Psihoules each having two hits.

Junior Ryan Cummings earned the win for the Greyhounds, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Junior Brandon Palimsano and sophomore Luke Skutches each tossed a third of an inning with Skutches allowing a run and a walk.  Junior Philip Spence finished the game on the mound for Moravian, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in an inning of action.

The Greyhounds open a non-conference doubleheader with Elizabethtown College with a 3-0 win at Blue & Grey Field behind a strong pitching performance from senior Maria DeBonis (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame), who allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out 11 batters in the win.

Moravian gave DeBonis all of the offense she would need in the bottom of the second inning.  Freshman designated player Jenna Carmon (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central), who was the designated players in the first contest, singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior outfielder Erica Klepeisz (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth).  After another out, sophomore shortstop Stephanie Falzarano (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) reached on an error before freshman outfielder Olivia Evanko (Nazarteth, PA/Nazareth) hit a two-RBI triple to score Carmon and Falzarano.

The Greyhounds added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Carmon led off with a double and moved to third on a single by Klepeisz.  Sophomore third baseman Maura Agnew (Doylestown, PA/Lansdale Catholic) then hit a sacrifice fly to score Carmon.

Moravian had an 8-2 edge in hits in the game with Evanko, Carmon and Klepeisz each collecting two hits.

Moravian earned a doubleheader sweep of Elizabethtown College with a 4-0 win in the second game of the twinbill at Blue & Grey Field behind a strong pitching performance from freshman Jenna Carmon, who tossed her second straight one-hitter, allowing just a leadoff single in the fifth inning, and she struck out a career high ten batters.

Moravian scored all four of its runs in the game in the bottom of the first inning.  Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Falzarano led off with a single, and freshman outfielder Olivia Evanko reached on an infield single.  Senior designated player Maria DeBonis had an RBI single to score Falzarano, and then senior catcher Sheri Bieniek added an RBI single to score EvankoDeBonis would cross the plate on a wild pitch while Bieniek scored on an RBI single from senior outfielder Erica Klepeisz.

The Greyhounds had a 10-1 advantage in hits in the second game with Evanko going three-for-three.  Bieniek added two hits for Moravian.

The Greyhounds opened a Landmark Conference doubleheader versus The United States Merchant Marine Academy at Blue & Grey Field with a 12-0 victory in five innings, Moravian's third straight shutout.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Falzarano led off the inning with a walk and moved up on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt from freshman outfielder Olivia Evanko.  After an out, senior catcher Sheri Bieniek connected on an RBI double to score Falzarano.  Freshman designated player Jenna Carmon followed with a two-RBI single to score Evanko and Bieniek.

Moravian pushed the lead to 9-0 with six runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Sophomore third baseman Maura Agnew led off with a single, and senior second baseman Katie Agnew reached on an error while putting down a sacrifice bunt.  After an out, Evanko singled to load the bases.  After a ground out with Maura Agnew out at the plate, Bieniek hit a three-RBI double to center field that cleared the bases.  Carmon followed with an RBI single to score Bieniek, and sophomore outfielder Amanda Paulus had an RBI double to score CarmonPaulus would score on an RBI single by senior outfielder Erica Klepeisz.

The Greyhounds added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 12-0 lead.  Junior pinch hitter Kelly Maressa singled with two outs and Maura Agnew drew a walk.  Sophomore second baseman Megan Boyle hit an RBI single to score Maressa and an error in the Merchant Marine outfield allowed Agnew to score as well.  Falzarano followed with an RBI single to score Boyle.

Moravian had a 13-2 advantage in hits in the game.  Bieniek was two-for-three with four RBIs while Carmon and Maura Agnew each went two-for-two. 

Senior pitcher Maria DeBonis and freshman Jenna Gonzalez (Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon) combined on the shutout for the Greyhounds.  DeBonis allowed two hits and struck out seven batters in four innings of action and Gonzalez tossed a perfect fifth inning.

Moravian swept its second straight doubleheader and won its fifth straight game as the Greyhounds defeated The United State Merchant Marine Academy, 9-0 in five innings, in the second contest of a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Blue & Grey Field. The win was Moravian's fourth straight by shutout.

Moravian jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Falzarano led off the game with a triple, and freshman outfielder Olivia Evanko followed with an RBI double.  After an out, senior catcher Sheri Bieniek hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.  Freshman pitcher Jenna Carmon would double before a walk by sophomore outfielder Amanda Paulus.  Senior outfielder Erica Klepiesz hit an RBI single to score Carmon while sophomore third baseman Maura Agnew hit a two-RBI single to score Paulus and Klepeisz.  Sophomore second baseman Megan Boyle finished off the inning with an RBI sacrifice RBI to score Maura Agnew.

The Greyhounds added a run in the bottom of the second inning for an 8-0 lead.  Evanko led off the inning with a single and scored on an RBI single from Carmon.

Moravian finished off the scoring with a run in the bottom of the third inning for a 9-0 advantage.  Falzarano had a two-out double and scored on an RBI single from Evanko.  The Greyhounds had a 12-2 edge in hits with Evanko going three-for-three.  Falzarano, Bieniek and Carmon each had two hits in the contest.

Carmon and sophomore Elizabeth Python (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) combined on the shutout for Moravian.  Carmon tossed the first three innings, allowing a hit with one strikeout while Python gave up a hit and had one strikeout in two innings of action.

            The Greyhounds remained undefeated in Landmark Conference action as the defending champions earn an 8-1 win at Susquehanna University in a match that started an hour late due to a delay by Moravian while travelling to Selinsgrove. The Greyhounds led 3-0 after doubles action with wins from the tandem of senior Dyana Swan (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) and freshman Jami Fein (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) at first doubles, the duo of freshmen Melissa Emery (Phillipsburg, NJ/Notre Dame (PA)) and Alexandra Hay (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) at second doubles, and the team of senior MaryKate Kelly (Beach Haven, NJ/Southern Regional) and sophomore Kerry McKinley (Sparta, NJ/Pope John XXIII) at third doubles. In singles action, Moravian won the top five spots with straight sets wins by Fein, Swan, Kelly, McKinley and Hay.

            Moravian posted an 8-1 non-conference win at Neumann College for the team’s seventh win of the season, surpassing last year’s win total of six in just ten contests.
            The Greyhounds led 2-1 after doubles action with wins from the tandems of junior Ian Box (
Charlestown, MA/The Rivers School) and Doug Morrow at first doubles and junior Chandler Forman (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth) and sophomore Thomas Turcich (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township).
            Moravian then swept all six of the singles matches.  Morrow won in three sets at first singles while Box, Forman and freshmen Kevin Holze (
Bayside, NY/St. Francis Prep), Drew Shreter (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and Nick Yelito (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua) all won in straight sets.

              The Greyhounds won their third straight match including the team's second Landmark Conference win of the season by a sweep, defeating Susquehanna University, 9-0, in a match that started an hour late due to Moravian being delayed while travelling to Selinsgrove.

The Moravian golf team will begin its spring season on Friday, April 3rd when it will host the Moravian College Spring Invitational at Southmoore Golf Course, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
