Travel Course

Québécois and Acadian Identity of Place

2024 Cancelled: May 28, 2024 to June 7, 2024

Course held Spring II 2024

Explore two distinct Francophone cultures in Canada and the northeastern United States. As a mandatory part of this Spring II course, we will explore several key areas where the Québécois and the Acadians evolved from early colonial settlements as distinct cultural groups. Led by Dr. Jenifer Branton-Desris and Prof. Lynnet Sánchez, we will visit Nova Scotia and Québec provinces. From hiking to museums; from indigenous relationships to contemporary society; from lobster to poutine, we will discover how the space we are in influences our culture and perceptions of self.
