ENGL 110

Migration, Exodus & Passages

2024 Trip Cancelled.

This 8-week Spring 2 course offers an introduction to African American literature, focusing on the themes of slavery, migration, exodus, and passages. Students will explore literary works that examine the historical and cultural experiences of African Americans, particularly in relation to their journeys from slavery to freedom. The course will provide a comprehensive understanding of African American literature while also preparing students for a study abroad trip to Ghana in May, where they will further explore the connections between African American history and the African diaspora. Through readings, discussions, and assignments, students will critically engage with the literature and develop a deeper appreciation for the complexities of African American identity and its transnational connections.
