American Association of University Women (AAUW) Student Affiliate Group

Advisor: Dr. Stacey Zaremba

The Moravian University AAUW (American Association for University Women) Student Affiliate Group was established in the fall of 2009 for the purposes of educating the Moravian and Bethlehem communities on women's issues, providing resources for community women in matters of education, leadership, safety, equality, and diversity, providing opportunities for growth and development to community women, and connecting community women with a responsibility to advocate for equality to protect future generations of women. Membership is open to women-identifying students and allies. The Moravian AAUW Student Affiliate Group has been recognized for outstanding service. AAUW received the ODK Silent Commitment award, Best Educational Program award, and the Club of the Year award.

Recent AAUW programs include: Take Back the Night march and rally, Love Your Body Day, A Week Without Violence and the Red Sand Project, promoting voting and the Elect Her Workshop, Equal Pay Day and Salary Negotiation workshop, Science Day with the Girl Scouts, Brown Bag Lunch Series, menstrual hygiene product distribution and collection, and the It's on Us Campaign.

AAUW is a national organization that promotes equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Moravian University is a College/University (C/U) member of AAUW national. This C/U partnership allows for the Moravian student affiliates to have a free membership while an undergraduate, with one free year after graduation. AAUW national sponsors travel grants to the yearly AAUW National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL), offers opportunities for Campus Action grants, and the ability to serve as a member of the AAUW National Student Advisory Council. The student affiliate group's "mother branch" is the local Bethlehem AAUW branch. The Bethlehem branch supports the affiliates by funding the AAUW Women and Gender Studies Award to a Moravian graduating senior.
