Patricia Billie Miller to be Honored at Gala
Connecticut State Representative Patricia Billie Miller (pictured above), along with Kathryn Emmett, Corporation Counsel of the City of Stamford, and Fran Pastore, CEO of the Women's Business Development Council, will be the honorees at the Stamford History Center's 2019 Gala on April 18, 2019. The event title is "Forging the Future: Honoring Women's Leadership.”
Miller, a Stamford native, graduated from Moravian in 1977 with a BS in mathematics. She was first elected to the Connecticut General Assembly in 2008 to represent Stamford's 145th Assembly District. She rose through the leadership ranks, and her current assignments include Assistant Majority Leader, and Bonding Subcommittee Chair of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee. She also serves as a member of the Education Committee and the Government Administration and Elections Committee.
Miller was appointed Deputy Speaker of the House in 2013, and served on the legislature's Appropriations Committee for four terms, assignments she left in order to take the new leadership roles she currently holds.
Through her tenure in the legislature, Miller has been a strong advocate for education reforms that help address and improve Connecticut's education achievement gap. She took the lead in addressing and passing legislation aimed at creating a Reading Readiness Program at the State Department of Education (SDE) that will assess Alliance Districts and Commissioner's Network Schools to determine if students are reading ready and to provide adequate support to the schools as it relates to performance and needs.
