Alumni news newsletter.jpg Nicole Vogel Is Ordained Pastor

 On Sunday, March 17, officials from Lehigh Presbytery ordained and installed Nicole Vogel as the new pastor of   East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church.

 Nicole graduated from Moravian College in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. For three years she   worked as an intensive care manager for mental health patients in Northampton and Lehigh counties. She then was hired as a social worker to look after the psycho-social needs of elderly patients in a nursing home. During those years she felt called by God for the ministry.

She was accepted at Moravian College Seminary in 2014 and graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in December 2018, having completed all requirements for ordination. Nicole maintained a 4.0 Grade Point Average and received several scholarships for academic excellence.Her highest honor was being selected by the faculty to receive the Dean Scholarship, given each year to only one returning student. For two years while in seminary, Nicole served as student minister to the East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church, where she excelled.


April Barton_1.jpgApril Barton Named Dean at Duquesne

Duquesne University named April Barton dean of the School of Law.

Barton, who begins as dean on Monday, July 1, currently serves as associate dean for academic affairs at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. In that role, she oversees the academic program and has successfully launched numerous initiatives on leadership development, including a student Lawyers as Leaders program and a new course, Leadership and Management Skills for Lawyers.

Barton earned a bachelor of science (cum laude) in physics from Moravian College in 1993 and a JD from Villanova University, where she received the Herman Mitchell Schwartz Award. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar and the American Bar Association.

Gerald Still Honored for Military Service

U.S. Marines and their guests gathered at a formal Mess Night on March 16 to honor Major General Gerald Still, one of the Lehigh Valley’s most senior ranking military officers, with the Marine Corps League’s Distinguished Citizen Award. Still, Moravian Class of 1964, also received a Pennsylvania Senate Commendation from the office of Senator Pat Browne. Enjoy the full story in the Bethlehem Press.


Robert Silcox_1.jpgRobert Silcox Joins Virtua Board of Trustees

The Virtua Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of its newest member, Robert Silcox

Silcox, Moravian College Class of ’68, is president and owner of Terra Associates, a real estate company located in Mount Holly, New Jersey. He is also board president of the Burlington County Special Services School and Burlington County Institute of Technology amd serves as vice-chairman of the Mount Holly Municipal Utilities Authority Board.

In addition to his new three-year term on the Virtua Board of Trustees, Silcox serves on the Virtua Foundation Board, which he chaired for 14 non-consecutive years.

"I am really looking forward to serving on the Virtua board,” says Silcox. “It’s an exciting time for Virtua, most notably due to the anticipated acquisition of the Lourdes Health System. As a long-time resident of Burlington County, I know that people are looking to us to come together and provide outstanding care well into the future. I am excited to be part of the team to deliver on that promise.”


Valerie Nicholas Earns CPA

Valerie Nicholas ’17, a staff associate in Concannon Miller’s Accounting, Audit and Tax Group, was recently awarded the designation of certified public accountant. Nicholas has been with Concannon Miller since 2017.
