Inside Moravian
April 5, 2018
Frances Longacre Barnard passed away on August 23, 2012, at the age of 88. Out of her love for Moravian College, she bequeathed a generous gift to fund several initiatives:
• the Barnard Endowed Scholarship Fund, to be awarded with a preference to history students
• renovations to the history department in Comenius Hall
• a one-time gift to the women’s field hockey team (Barnard played field hockey while at Moravian)
• a one-time gift for three SOAR scholarships
On April 16, 2018, the college welcomed Frances’s son David Barnard, an aerospace engineer at The Aerospace Corporation in Chantilly, Virginia, to a ceremony dedicating the history department’s common room to his mother.

Curious to explore and share the culinary offerings of our ancestors, the Moravian College History Department hosted a Premodern Cook-off on September 26th. The event was organized by four 100-level history classes:
Colonial Latin America, taught by Assistant Professor Sandra Aquilar
Native North America, taught by Associate Professor Jamie Paxton
and two sections England to 1603, taught by Professor Sandy Bardsley
