Hardball Cider, founded by Moravian College alum Geoffrey Deen '04, is swinging for the fences. The Upper Mount Bethel Township-based craft hard cidery, whose beverages can be found at area restaurants, retail locations and sports stadiums, is expanding its regional footprint and drink lineup and opening a tasting room on Bethlehem's Main Street.

In an annual tradition begun in 2016, Moravian College awarded full scholarships to two Bethlehem students: Lexi Vega, a senior at Liberty High School, and Gabriella Greenhoward, making a college education possible for two accomplished young women, whose families have faced significant hardships in recent years. The following story was first published in the March 28 edition of The Morning Call.

A Broadway show, Oscar-nominated films, a trip to the National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington, D.C., an examination of health in the African American community, and a look at the work of generations of Black artists—Black History Month at Moravian College offered a wealth of opportunity for celebration, study, and reflection. All of these events blossomed under the theme “Black History 365,” which urges us to study this history and honor African American contributions to our culture not just over the 28 days of February but year-round.

Since Torok began teaching Artists as Activists in 2011, she has asked her class members to develop posters on activist-related themes. For the past several years, the posters have been displayed in an exhibition in the H. Paty Eiffe Gallery of the HUB. Torok has previously participated in Amnesty International conferences where student posters were displayed, but none of the poster displays generated as much “buzz” as the artwork from the 2017 exhibit on sustainability.
