The annual Omicron Delta Kappa Awards Ceremony was held on Thursday, May 3 and the Quiet Commitment Award was given to the Math Society which quietly, yet consistently achieves its goals and enriches the undergraduate experience for its members and/or benefits the Moravian College campus community.

Student from the the Math Society and the Art Club joined together to have a Geometric Drawing competition put together by a First Year Writing Seminar (FYWS) based on technical writing.  Students had to describe, using words, a geometric drawing while other students tried to draw the image.  Over 30 students attended the event.  The two winning groups were from Art Club and a First Year Writing Seminar.

The Moravian Math Society hosted a Halloween Party. Faculty brought Halloween themed treats and Moravian student Shane Hansen led the group in Halloween origami.

This year's first Discrete Math Days was held at DeSales University today.  One of the talks was given by Moravian College Mathematics major Makkah Davis.  Her talk, titled Analyzing Partisan Combinatorial Games was based on work she completed last summer with Dr Shank.

A group of Moravian students and faculty attended as well as students from DeSales University and Cedar Crest College.

The next Discrete Math Day will be on November 30 here at Moravian.

We've finalized the date and invited speaker for this year's Undergraduate Student Conference.  The date is February 24 and the speaker will be Dr. Jana Gevertz from The College of New Jersey.  Dr Gevertz works in the field of mathematical biology and often involved undergraduates in her work.  

Stay tuned for more information on our conference as the date draws near.

Dr. Angela Hicks from Lehigh University gave a colloquium talk today titled "Symmetric Polynomials".  It was an exciting talk that challenged us to think about how to build any symmetric polynomial from just a few building blocks (just like a basis for a vector space!).
