It didn’t happen. Despite the world’s last two remaining super powers, the United States and the Soviet Union, considering each other enemies for most of the second half of the twentieth century, a third world war didn’t happen between them. But why?

I’ve always considered myself knowledgeable about the Second World War. The United States and the other Allied nations had saved the world from the totalitarian alliance of fascist Italy, Nazi German, and Imperialist Japan. Ultimately, the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to bring about an end to a terrible war.
