7 Best Places to Take a Nap at Moravian College

7 Best Places to Catch a Nap on Campus

April 14, 2016

It’s getting to be that time of year again—the dreaded finals week is just around the corner. The library will be packed and our blood will be pretty much replaced with coffee. Studying for exams is exhausting! Sometimes you just feel like falling asleep and hope your problems won’t be there when you wake up. Sadly, no matter how much you procastinate, exams still loom on the horizon. But that doesn’t mean you can’t catch a quick nap to refuel your brain juices and get those intellectual thoughts pumping once more! Here’s the perfect guide to the best spots to relax and take a little breather from your busy day!

1. Theater Lounge, HUB

The theater lounge has already been labeled as one of the best Hidden Study Spots on Campus, but it’s also one of the best spots to catch a nap! Located right next to the College Bookstore, the Theater Lounge is open to anybody and offers a quiet place tucked away from the busy commotion of the HUB. There is a keurig where students can get a free coffee or tea and comfy sofas, chairs, and blankets to curl up and snooze.

2. Benigna Garden, South Campus

Many people don’t know the lovely pastoral attraction of South Campus. Because the majority of campus life occurs on North Campus, a lot of people miss out on the beauty and calmness of South Campus. Benigna Garden behind the Root Cellar Café offers a peaceful grassy knoll surrounded by spring flowers, tables and chairs, benches, and hammocks. The stone wall surrounding Benigna offers more seating or students can simply bring out a beach towel or picnic blanket to do homework, snooze in a hammock, or enjoy the beautiful spring weather.

3. AfterWords Café, Reeve’s Library

The AfterWords Café, located on the lower level of Reeve’s Library, offers a snug little corner where weary students can plop down and catch some Zzs. Behind the opaque partition dividing the tables from the café seating, there are plush brown sofas in the corner. Complete with fluffy pillows and even green fleece blankets, courtesy of the library, this is the perfect place to curl up for a nap. Bonus: you can buy coffee, tea, or hot chocolate for just $1!

4. Writing Center, Zinzendorf Hall

Most people have to make a trip to the Writing Center at least once during their college career. Whether it be for FYS or mandatory by the professor, the Writing Center tutors are there to help! Located on the second floor of Zinzendorf Hall, the Writing Center isn’t just for writing tutors. There are comfy couches and deep, plush chairs to sink into for a nice nap. When the Writing Center is closed, (hours are posted throughout the building), it’s the perfect place to find some downtime.

5. The Doghouse, Zinzendorf Hall

Doghouse 2.JPG

Also located in Zinzendorf Hall, the newly refurbished Doghouse is located in the basement of Zinz. The Doghouse is a swipe-access place which is open from 8am-6pm Monday-Friday. Walking up to Zinzendorf, the Doghouse is the part of the building that sticks out with the pitched roof.  Downstairs there is an abundance of black leather couches, love seats, and tables. There are plenty of outlets for charging electronics and a bar along the wall with high chairs. Complete with a bathroom so you don’t have to make the trek back outside and up to the second floor, the Doghouse is one of the best private spots on campus to take a break. Plus, the lighting is a bit dim, so if you’re one of those people who needs darkness to sleep, the Doghouse has got you covered!

6. Hall of Science Lobby

The Hall of Science is a pretty hopping place; who would think to take a nap there? During the day, students and professors are constantly coming and going. After 4pm, the HOS usually calms down quite a bit. As soon as you walk inside, there is an expanse of couches, plush stools, and tables to the left. The seating is much more comfortable than it looks, honest! Many times you can find a student passed out on one of these couches or in the back corner just sprawled out fast asleep. Not many people will be walking by later at night, so if you’re looking for a calmer place to study and rest, but still prefer to be out in the open, HOS is a great spot to do so!

7. Chapel, Comenius Hall

Comenius Hall is probably the most prominent building on campus. A lot of people might not think to venture here for a nap. There is one distinct spot in Comenius that offers the perfect place for a moment of peace. This is the chapel. Not too many people pass through here, with the exception of campus tours or people stopping by to pray, so it’s typically pretty quiet. Even if you aren’t religious, the chapel seems to emanate a sense of calm that immediately relaxes you and gets you in that zen mode. You can stretch out on the benches, lean back and relax. The rosy light filtering through the stained glass windows gives a beautiful glow to the room and is the definition of tranquility.

These cozy little nooks about campus offer pockets of quiet in your busy day. If you’re sick of your dorm room and looking for other places to do some R&R, these are just a few of the highlights. Undoubtedly, there are more; Moravian may be small, but not so small that it doesn’t have its secrets. Comment below with some of your favorite places to catch a nap on campus and spread the word!

This post looks great Sara!

Actually, the coffee in the theatre lounge is only for theatre students and people who pay for a ticket to see our shows. There is a sign above the keurig that states this as well.

Terrific post, Sara! I knew about some of these spots, but not all of them. Now if I could just find time to squeeze in a nap . . . .
