Coach Spirk's Final Thoughts: "The trip far exceeded all expectations."

June 22, 2017

By Coach Spirk

After over two years of planning, our overseas trip to England has come to a close. As we sat in the airport in London waiting to make the long trek across the ocean back home to Moravian, I asked everyone how they would rank the trip on a scale of 1 to 10. The best answer came from Elizabeth Eddinger, when she quickly responded a 40! I would have to agree with her, the trip far exceeded all expectations.

Sallie, our Sport Tour guide and liaison, planned a precise and eventful trip. All of our fans who went with us were fantastic. From the Eddinger family who showed all of us what family really mean; to Maddie's grandparents, Jules and AnnMarie who kept up with us as we walked every where; to Lori who helped keep everyone together and Sam who gave us extra punch off the bench; to Sara who we still consider a part of our team, to Maggie and Cathy who made us laugh with their stories (and their basketball skills); to Carolyn who thankfully knew her way around the city...they all helped make the trip one we will all remember forever.

The team play was great. We improved as a team on the court and we got closer off the court as well.

Here are the scoring numbers from our trip. (Avg, game 1, game 2, game 3).

Camille: 19.6 ppg, 22, 22, 15

Nadine: 13.3 ppg, 22, 13, 5

Karlie: 10.3 ppg,  14, 10, 7

Trista: 9.66 ppg, 4, 17, 8

Maddie: 5.6 ppg, 2, 13, 2

Brooke: 5.3 ppg, 4, 6, 6

Sam: 3.6 ppg, 4, 5, 2

Taylor: 3 ppg, -, 5, 4

Jen: 2.3 ppg, 3, 4, -

The memories we made will last well after the basketball games.

It started in Manchester and the realization that life should never be taken for granted. We made our way to Liverpool and Albert Dock, which was gorgeous. It was Beatlesmania, Liverpool Cathedral and crazy bike tours, along with our first win in England. Oxford was a place I would return in a minute, as we only had a few hours there to learn of all the history. As we moved on to London, it became increasingly obvious that not only was the team bonding and playing well, but also the entire group was enjoying each other and forming friendships for years to come.

London brought Windsor Castle, Big Ben, London Eye, Tower of London, team dinners, tube and train rides, Scavenger hunt, 2 more games, laughter, photo ops and many memories.

Thank you to all who helped in supporting our trip. We cannot thank each of you enough. It would not have been possible without help from family, friends, alumni and supporters near and far.

Coach Endler and Coach Brogan took care of details for much of the trip, prior, during and after! Thank you. They are 2 of the best!

I am looking forward to the season and finding new adventures and making new memories.

As we embarked on our journey, we could not have imagined what our trip had in store for us.

Thank you, again, for making this trip possible for our terrific women's basketball team! I enjoyed reading each of the blogs and knowing that everyone was safe and having the adventure of a lifetime!
