My Moravian

Bethlehem, PA is called “The Christmas City” for a reason that is plain and simple: we LOVE our holidays! Walking up Main Street feels like walking through a Christmas wonderland with lights, wreaths, and Christmas trees scattered throughout. Bethlehem hosts a variety of Christmas events and festivals that are open to the public. Moravian College even offers some holiday events of their own to get students into the holiday spirit. To get the full Christmas City experience, I have a few events listed below to check out at Bethlehem during the Christmas Season.

The SteelStacks is an iconic symbol in the Lehigh Valley and is easily recognized as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region. It is located in Southside Bethlehem by the Lehigh River and is next to PBS Studios, ArtsQuest, and the Sands Casino. Locals and tourists alike gather for festivals like MusikFest and Oktoberfest, movies at Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas, among many other exciting events. However, SteelStacks has a history that only a true Bethlehem local would know and is just one of the many furnaces that used to produce steel for the entire country.

Since my freshman year, I've been searching the Lehigh Valley with my friends on a culinary quest, looking for a meal anyone can love, even on a college student budget: a good, cheap burger.

Bethlehem, Pa. was officially named the Christmas City in 1937 - for obvious reasons. Like the very star that led Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, the Pennsylvania city shines bright with Christmas lights adorning every storefront and streetlamp. As it is the season for giving, the city also has all kinds of places to find the perfect Christmas gift. Here is a Moravian gift guide for students to find gifts for everyone on a budget!

Moravian College students are always in the know about College events and activities on campus: there are so many colorful flyers and bright banners-how could we not be? While many events occur on North Campus, MoCo’s secondary campus, the Priscilla Payne Hurd Campus a mile South of Comenius Hall, has its own special charm and attractions not to be overlooked! Here are five good reasons why South Campus, too, rocks!

The city of Bethlehem has no shortage of exciting events and fun festivals, and most of them happen only blocks away from our campus! Winter, spring, summer, or fall, Moravian College students have plenty of opportunities to listen to great music, pig out on amazing foods, and mingle with classmates, friends, and neighbors.

All students at Moravian College have traveled down Main Street at some point during their time here. We have all become familiar with the shops and restaurants on Bethlehem’s Main strip and can probably rattle off a dozen of these places without batting an eye. And yet, there must be more to Bethlehem than what’s located on Main Street. Eventually, we need more than a bagel from Johnny’s or pasta from Mama Nina’s, no matter how delicious the food is! For those interested in straying from the well known shops on Main Street, have no fear! There are plenty of off-Main Street shops and restaurants to satisfy your desire for something new:

All of us, at one point or another, have fallen victim to the doom and gloom that is college dining monotony. But what is truly missing from our undergraduate diets? One word: variety. Eating from the same place every day is sure to breed distaste, and the Blue and Grey is no exception. But blowing all your extra cash on a few good meals a week doesn't seem smart, either. Here are four restaurants in Bethlehem, PA, all within walking distance (sorta) of Moravian College, that are sure to spice up your lunch break without breaking the bank of a broke college student.
