My Moravian
June 22, 2017
After over two years of planning, our overseas trip to England has come to a close. As we sat in the airport in London waiting to make the long trek across the ocean back home to Moravian, I asked everyone how they would rank the trip on a scale of 1 to 10. The best answer came from Elizabeth Eddinger, when she quickly responded a 40! I would have to agree with her, the trip far exceeded all expectations.

We started off the day by taking a quick walk to the train station.  This was different than any other day because we only experienced The Tube or as we call it "subway".  This was a fun way to see more of England rather than traveling underground.  After the forty-five minute ride, we got off at the end of the line to see Windsor Castle!

Today was arguably the most tiring, but possibly the most eventful day of the trip. We started off with a metro ride to Westminster Pier on “The Tube” as they call it here in London. As soon as we arrived at the pier, we all gazed at the iconic Big Ben. After snapping a bunch of pictures of it within the crowd, we headed over for a river cruise up the Thames River. This was where we were able to capture the scenery of the bridges, buildings, and the Eye. As for me, the rumbles of the boat made me doze off after a couple of minutes.

Today was our first full day in London and we began the day by meeting our tour guide Ross and our bus driver for the day John.  We were about to embark on our trip throughout the city of London and we were excited to see what was in store.  On our way to St. Paul's cathedral, we were pleasantly suprised to be traveling over the Tower Bridge and got a sneak peak of the Tower of London, which we would be going to tomorrow.

We had an early start this morning to leave Liverpool and start our next adventure to the cities of Oxford and London. Once we arrived in Oxford we met a young man, Will, who lived in Oxford but surprisingly enough went to the rival school, University of Cambridge. Will walked us around Oxford and told us an abundant amount of information and fun facts. Such as, University of Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world; a scene from Harry Potter took place in the Bodleian Library, and C.S. Lewis the author of, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, attended Oxford University and was slightly influenced by his surroundings in writing his novel. After being educated about Oxford, we had time to venture off in the city ourselves and grab some lunch.

The Moravian College Women's Basketball Team has taken advantage of the NCCA rule that allows teams to travel every three years to play games overseas. On May 23, 2017, they departed to London, England, to experience what culture, and basketball, was like over in the U.K.

We arrived at Moravian College ready to begin our trip by taking a bus to Newark Airport. We arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare to allow us to get something to eat and to prepare for our adventure ahead.  After a long flight, we landed in Manchester and met our awesome guides for the trip: Sallie, Denise, and James. We boarded the bus to take us to the city of Manchester. Denise filled us with fun facts about the rich history of Manchester and several of the buildings and landmarks. We were able to walk around the city center of Manchester and have lunch.
