I am so thankful that I decided to go abroad this summer to study in Japan. Being that it was my first time leaving the United States, I expected some culture shock, but was pleasantly surprised with how quickly I grew comfortable. It was almost immediate!

Standing in front of the gate, one can hardly take the whole sight in all at once. It towers above the surrounding area, but it does not impose. It gives a sense of solidity and immovability.

I had an excellent time during the two jam-packed weeks of our study abroad program in Japan—Exploring Culture, Peacebuilding, and the Legacies of War. Though I had already visited Japan twice, this trip took us to places that I would likely not have visited otherwise and exposed me to countless people and their points of view.
