My Moravian
May 16, 2018
Today was a very eventful day! We became experts at scaling cliffs, found sea urchins as big as my head, and explored sea caves that can only be accessed during low tide, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

It is hard to believe this is only the second day of exploring the Oregon coast! Each day is a ride of adrenaline as we traverse across the previously forbidden ocean floor.

At 5:30 am, I grabbed a quick breakfast consisting of a bagel and some hot chocolate mixed with coffee. South Cove, our destination for the morning, was about a ten-minute drive, which was just long enough to fall back asleep in the back of the van. Our schedule revolves around the lowest of low tide in order for us to study the intertidal species, which forces us to get up at very early times. This was my first time seeing the Pacific west coast and I had no idea what to expect.

So what do art majors do? For people who don’t frequent South Campus often because their classes confine them to Main Campus, it can be a mystery as to what goes on at the oldest part of campus. Oftentimes people think that art majors are painting or drawing all day long, but there is so much more to the department than that.

We’ve all been there—the sharp pain attacking your chest, the inability to take a deep breath, unwanted thoughts zooming in and out and back in again. Anxiety is one of the most common mental illnesses in the United States affecting 40 million adults young and old each year. If you’re not already coping with it from time to time, odds are one day you may fall into that statistic. What can you do when that time comes?

When I sat down to register for Spring 2018 classes a few months ago, I knew that I wanted to take a course in pottery.  However, there was one problem – Moravian only offers Ceramics I (an introductory course to working with clay) and I wasn’t an introductory student.

On Friday and Saturday, Mar. 16-17, Moravian College hosted its 4th Writers’ Conference. The conference was entitled, “Writing about Health: Activism, Advocacy, and Storytelling” which connected to Moravian’s In Focus theme of Healthcare. This was my first Writer’s Conference and it definitely made me more aware of the various ways writing can be used to convey opinions and stories about complex topics, such as healthcare.

Do you enjoy proving that the future influences the present or playing around with magnetic coils? Do you want to learn how to build a boat with aluminum foil and 4 straws that can hold over 400 pennies? Does roasting a marshmallow with a mirror sound like fun? Then you might want to check out the Society of Physics Students to see if it’s the club for you!

Nearly five years ago in the spring of 2013, I visited Moravian College as a junior beginning my college search. My aunt went to Moravian, so naturally I wanted to check it out. I’ve seen how successful she is in her life, so I knew this school would be a good choice. I submitted my early-decision application to Moravian College that fall, received my acceptance, and my college search was over. I was going to be a Class of 2018 Greyhound.
