My Moravian
February 28, 2018
Last week I got a text from my Captain saying she needed me to volunteer to sign autographs for little girls who were coming to Moravian for Women’s Athlete Day. I didn’t necessarily want to give up my Saturday, but as my senior softball season comes to a close and the nostalgia slowly sets in, I decided it wasn’t the worst idea.

As a senior, I’ve lived in numerous resident halls on campus. Of course, I have my fair share of stories to tell about each one. Some have been great while others...not so much.

Now, as a commuter for the last semester of my senior year, I have experienced life off-campus. Although ultimately I prefer it to living on-campus, there are a great many things I miss about being an on-campus resident. Speaking from my own experiences, I present a list of pros/cons for all living options available for Moravian students.

This March will mark the one-year anniversary of my decision to turn a passion into a business.  My mother and I taught ourselves how to knit when I was eight years old.  I absolutely loved that I could create something out of just a pile of yarn.  Since then, I have honed my skills and experimented with new stitches and writing my own patterns.  It got to the point where I was making so many things, there were mountains of hats and scarves lying around the house.  I decided it was silly to continue making things without someone to wear them.

Ah, college food: who doesn’t love over-salted, greasy, and pre-cooked questionable meat? Somehow, even the salads that aren’t tasteless seem to be loaded with added fat and sugar, especially if you don’t get dressing on the side. Thankfully, there are still quick and healthy food options you can try—if you’re willing to break in that unused stove top in your dorm’s kitchen.

Moravian College hosts a yearly service at Central Moravian Church known simply as “Vespers.” In this service, there are musical acts designed to worship and a candlelight service. Many Moravian College students participate through music and volunteer work, and many Moravian College graduates return: to pause and reflect upon their past and to seek out joy for their future. Did you know the tradition of Vespers started in Bethlehem in 1756, even before the Central Moravian Church was completed in 1806? Here are a few more Vespers facts you may not have been aware of...

Bethlehem, PA is called “The Christmas City” for a reason that is plain and simple: we LOVE our holidays! Walking up Main Street feels like walking through a Christmas wonderland with lights, wreaths, and Christmas trees scattered throughout. Bethlehem hosts a variety of Christmas events and festivals that are open to the public. Moravian College even offers some holiday events of their own to get students into the holiday spirit. To get the full Christmas City experience, I have a few events listed below to check out at Bethlehem during the Christmas Season.
