Awards and Recognitions

Khristina Haddad, assistant professor of political science, was presented an Outstanding Teaching in Political Science award by the American Political Science Association and Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. Earlier this year, she received Moravian College's Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching.

Cecilia Fox, associate professor of biology, was recognized at the Women in Neuroscience luncheon for her mentoring of students. The luncheon was held at the Society of Neuroscience Conference in Washington, D.C., November 14-19.

Articles, Reviews, and Other Publications

An article co-authored by Dana Dunn, professor of psychology, and his SOAR student Clint Brody '09 was the lead in the November 2008 issue of the journal Rehabilitation Psychology. Dana and Clint planned and drafted sections of their theory article, "Defining the Good Life Following Acquired Physical Disability," in the summer of 2007. Dana completed the manuscript earlier this year. In addition, Dana's article "Another View: In Defense of Vigor Over Rigor in Classroom Demonstrations" appeared in a special issue of the journal Teaching of Psychology (Vol. 35, October 1008). The issue contains a variety of articles on the role of the emerging "scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL)" in psychology.

The article "A Decade of Assessment Progress: Learned Principles" authored by Robert Brill, associate professor of psychology, was published in the November/December 2008 issue of Assessment Update: Progress, Trends, and Practices in Higher Education.

Conferences and Presentations

Cecilia Fox, associate professor of biology, presented "The Effect of Long-Term Selenium Exposure in the Striatal 6-OHDA Model of Parkinson's Disease: A Cell Survival and Behavior Study" at the Society of Neuroscience Conference in Washington, D.C., held in November. The research project was completed with her summer SOAR student, Kanizeh Visram, a biochemistry major. Cecilia also was invited to present her service learning project entitled "Brain Awareness Day—A Service Learning Experience in Neuroscience" at the conference.

Other News

Jim West, chair and professor of economics and business, was interviewed by Aviation International News for the article "Aviation Finance: Credit Crunch 101," a Q&A piece. In addition, Jim was quoted in a recent issue of Eastern Pennsylvania Business Journal regarding the Boscov's buyout.

A blog about the Moravian College and Theological Seminary's food drive for New Bethany Ministries was posted at Florence Kimball, dean of the Comenius center and one of the drive's organizers, was quoted.

In the November issue of gradPsych, Dana Dunn, professor of psychology, is quoted about leading class discussions in the article "Making Small Talk."
