Another academic year begins

Move-in weekend was a busy one that actually began on Thursday, August 23, with the annual College Community Colloquium, led by President Christopher Thomforde in Foy Hall. President Thomforde’s talk, and presentations by staff members and Lyn Trodahl Chynoweth '68, board chair, centered on the successes of the past year and the strategic plans being put in place for the coming year as the search begins for a new president to take office when he retires in June 2013.

Throughout the following day, first-year students and their families filled the areas around residence halls and the HUB as they unpacked and moved in to their new homes. Plenty of help was provided by various teams, clubs and individuals on campus. See move-in pictures here.

After the last bag was unpacked, freshmen and guests were entertained on the Priscilla Payne Hurd campus by the Moravian College marching band, and then joined faculty for freshman convocation at Central Moravian Church. Moving messages were presented by the President, Ken Huus, vice president of enrollment management, Gordy Weil, vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty, and Nicole Loyd, vice president of student affairs.

The speakers encouraged the students to take advantage of all Moravian has to offer, to embrace both the similarities and differences of their classmates, and to pursue their passions, making the most of their college years. Photos from Convocation are available here.
