Bethlehem, Pa., November 16, 2015—A group of Moravian College management students will visit the residents at Kirkland Village in Bethlehem along with Rafaelle, a therapy dog. The students are from the class “Doing Good at Work,” a 300 level management class that focuses on ethics, volunteerism, and social responsibility. The College students and Rafaelle are sure to be popular when they visit Kirkland Village on Tuesday November 17. The residents vary in age and health condition, with some in short-term rehabilitation to long-term nursing care.

Santo Marabella and Therapy Dog RafaelleIn addition to time with Rafaelle, students will be leading a number of other activities including: trivia games (Liam Nolan); cookie decorating (Nouhad Salim); karaoke (Jenna Kramer); and dancing (Kate Polles). Kirkland Village is located 1 Kirkland Village Circle, Bethlehem, Pa. The fun begins at 1:00 p.m. in the dining area.

The "Doing Good" at Work” course focuses on philanthropy, ethical codes of conduct, voluntarism, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. “Not only is ‘doing good’ at work the morally correct thing to do for the individual employee, but the more individuals in the organization who do good, the more likely the organization will succeed on economic, social, and mission-related levels and goals,” said Santo D. Marabella, professor of management at Moravian College, who has been teaching the course for the past 10 years. “Students learn about the philosophy, history and practice of doing good at work, and integrate what they learn and what they believe to develop their own model for ‘doing good’ that they can work and live with.”

"I have been told by alumni who have completed the course that they still live by the principles they developed in the class and apply it in their current workplace,” Marabella noted. In recent years, the class has raised money for a Thanksgiving meal at New Bethany Ministries in Bethlehem and visited Northampton County Prison.
