Featured speakers include Michael McGovern of Rotary International and Chad Priest of the American Red Cross

BETHLEHEM, PA, October 16, 2018: Today, Moravian College announced that the Janet A. Sipple Lecture for 2018 on Global Public Health will feature Michael McGovern, current chair of International PolioPlus Committee for Rotary International and Chad Priest, CEO, American Red Cross, Indiana Region. The Janet A. Sipple Lecture for 2018 will be held on Friday, October 19 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Central Moravian Church at 73 W Church St, Bethlehem, PA 18018.

"When I was born, polio was the second biggest fear among Americans after nuclear war. Thanks to Rotary and the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we are close to a polio free world,” said Michael McGovern. “We have also helped to improve health systems in many countries thus the impact of our work extends beyond just polio."

Mr. McGovern will present “Celebrating the Progress in Eliminating Polio” and Mr. Priest will address the audience with his presentation titled “Addressing the Challenge of Infectious Disease.”

“We are thrilled to have both Mr. McGovern and Mr. Priest for this year’s important Sipple Lecture on Global Health,” commented Dr. Kerry Cheever, professor and chairperson of the Helen S. Breidegam School of Nursing at Moravian College. “The eradication of polio is still a concern worldwide and Rotary International and the American Red Cross are a big part of these efforts, which have been making a real impact over the last few years.”
