Moravian College student Christopher Antoine honored as 2018 Newman Civic Fellow

For immediate release

BETHLEHEM, PA, March 5, 2018 – Today, Moravian College announced that Campus Compact, a Boston-based non-profit organization working to advance the public purposes of higher education, has announced the 268 students who will make up the organization’s 2018 cohort of Newman Civic Fellows, including Moravian College’s Christopher Antoine.

Antoine is an active member of the Moravian College community, acting as treasurer of the Omicron Kappa chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, a resident advisor with the campus residence life organization, and an active executive member of the Black Student Union. In addition, he is a member of the Moravian College Landmark Conference Champion Track and Field team.

Moravian College President Bryon Grigsby submitted the nomination for the Newman Civic Fellowship and had this to say, “Christopher Antoine has served as a true role model of tenacity and commitment. After noticing that historically underrepresented students were not always aware of their resources on campus, and students of color were finding themselves challenged by financial obligations that distracted from focusing on their coursework, he decided to take action. Christopher's work and revolutionary spirit exemplifies Moravian College's liberal arts tradition of transformative leadership in a world of change.”  To read President Grigsby’s full nomination statement, please click here: Antoine Nomination Statement.

The Newman Civic Fellowship, named for Campus Compact co-founder Frank Newman, is a one-year experience emphasizing personal, professional, and civic growth. Through the fellowship, Campus Compact provides a variety of learning and networking opportunities, including a national conference of Newman Civic Fellows in partnership with the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. The fellowship also provides fellows with access to apply for exclusive scholarship and post-graduate opportunities.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate and engage with such an extraordinary group of students,” said Campus Compact president Andrew Seligsohn. “The stories of this year's Newman Civic Fellows make clear that they are bringing people together in their communities to solve pressing problems. That is what Campus Compact is about, and it's what our country and our world desperately need.”

The Newman Civic Fellowship is supported by the KPMG Foundation and Newman’s Own Foundation.
