Summer Music Camps and Lessons for Youngsters Abound at Moravian College

Bethlehem, Pa., June 1, 2016— Moravian College will open its doors to local musicians this summer through a series of educational camps and lessons. Three week-long music camps and private music lessons, are available via application and audition to young musicians of all levels. The College will hold three music camps including a Summer Jazz Camp running the week of July 11-15, and a Summer Vocal Camp and a Young Musician’s Camp both running the week of July 18-22. The camp days start at9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m.

The Moravian College Music Institute is now accepting applications for private music lessons for Summer 2016.  Music lessons are available on all instruments for students of all ages and levels.  Summer music lessons take place through August 19,  and are offered in sets of 6 or 8 lessons.  All lessons take place in the Moravian College Music Department in Bethlehem’s Historic District at Church and Main Streets. For young people with an interest in jazz, The Summer Jazz Camp (July 11-15) offers jam sessions, jazz history, master classes, workshops, classes in recording techniques, plus a recording session.  The instrumental program emphasizes improvisation within a small combo setting and a big band.  A public concert is presented on Friday.  Two tracks are offered:  beginner/intermediate (for anyone) and advanced (audition only).  Young musicians entering grades 8-12 and college students are encouraged to enroll.  High school juniors and those older have the option to earn college credit. The camp cost is $400-475.

Budding vocalists can spend a week at Moravian College’s Summer Vocal Camp from  July 18-22 will include sessions in theory and musicianship, chamber ensembles, and a choir.  There electives and optional lessons (classical, Jazz and Broadway).  For the private lessons, students will have two 30-minute lessons with a member of our vocal faculty and prepare for a recording session with an accompanist.  Vocalists entering grades 9-12 are encouraged to enroll.  A final concert is planned for Friday evening, July 15.  Lunch is provided. The Young Musician’s Camp (July 18-22) offers instruction in chamber ensembles, classes in music theory and history, workshops in ear training and composing, and master classes. Young Musicians entering grades 6-12 are encouraged to enroll. Students share newly developed performance skills during the final concert in Foy Concert Hall on Friday evening.  Lunch is provided. The camp cost is $400.
