Joanne Shaw Grant writes that she and her husband, Thomas, have been looking for a place to downsize for 3-4 years, but they never expected it to be Florida. They spent the winter at The Villages and are moving at the end of April! “You have to see it to believe it!”
Bro. Mickey McGrath, OSFS, visiting artist for the Salesian Center for Faith & Culture at DeSales University, will be bringing his artistry to the campus again this spring with two new events. He will be educating, illuminating, and inspiring all with new insights into the Salesian heart and spirit.

Barbara Lois Hurt writes that at present I live in Bologna, Italy and was recently awarded a plaque by the Art Journal of Bologna for one of my paintings displayed at an art gallery (Galleria De Marchi) in Bologna. I have never stopped painting, singing and writing.

Candy Barr Heimbach will be honored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession with the Lynette Norton Award. The awards ceremony will be held during the 20th annual conference on May 9 in Pittsburgh. The award is designed to recognize and encourage female attorneys who excel in litigation skills and who are devoted to mentoring female lawyers. Heimbach is a shareholder and supervisor of the Healthcare Liability Group in the Bethlehem office of Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin. She served as a senior vice president and member of the board of directors for the firm for six years.A defense attorney in the area of medical and dental malpractice, health care and other civil litigation matters, Candy has been named a PA super Lawyer each year since 2005 in the area of personal injury defense and medical malpractice. In 2011 and 2012 she was in the top 50 of Women Super Lawyers. She is chair of the ”Women Lawyers of Lehigh Valley and Beyond” and serves as a mentor to many young attorneys. She has also mentored Penn State Dickinson School of Law students and has been involved in mock trial programs for high school and college students.

John F. Burke, Ph.D. has been named the executive director of the Wolfington Center at Cabrini College. Burke specializes in and has published several articles on Catholic Social Teaching, social justice, peace studies, religion, politics, and diversity.

Daniel McCabe was newly named chief administrative officer for CareSource. CareSource is a leading non-profit public sector managed care company based in Dayton, Ohio. McCabe will oversee the managed care company’s human resources department, enterprise risk management, vendor management, CareSource University and the CareSource Foundation.

Detective Ralph DeLuca, who serves as a youth officer for the town of Bethel, Conn., was recently recognized by the Office of the State’s Attorney and the Regional Child Advocacy Center for his work in child abuse prevention and investigation.

Susan Gangwere McCabe reports that she and her husband, Jim and their daughter, Betsy reside in Dearborn, Michigan. Susan is the curator of the Henry Ford Estate, the home of Henry Ford which is on the campus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She oversees the collection and research and is involved with all aspects of the museum side of operations. Since the museum is on campus she has the opportunity to work with students on various projects.
She welcomes anyone visiting the area to stop in. She would be happy to show you around. Recently Susan was elected to the Board of Directors of the international museum organization, ALHFAM - Association of Living History, Farm and Agricultural Museums. She is also involved with an international exchange program, CISV. This volunteer organization promotes peace through understanding by providing opportunities for adults and children to come together to learn about each others cultures throughout the world.
She's one of the co-planners of a summer village camp that brings four 11 year olds and a leader from twelve different participating countries to a Detroit area camp for a month. Their daughter, a high school junior has participated in a number of CISV camp programs. This past summer, she spent three weeks in Florence at a camp for 15 year olds with representatives from eight different countries. Susan still has family and friends in Bethlehem which brings her back to the area usually for Christmas and in the summer.

Alumni Weekend 2009 marked the 30th Reunion for the class of 1979. A small but enthusiastic group of alums returned and gathered at the lovely home of Kris Jones Groller on Friday evening. Returning Alumni included Anne McCandless Rampolla, Ken Rampolla, Mary Ellen Sahaydak LaDuke, Frank Rauscher, Stu Lubow, Ken Pohlidal and this writer. We reminisced and shared some good laughs while paging through some old pictures and copies of The Comenian from that era.
Pete Marion accompanied by his two young sons joined in on some of Saturday's activities. We had an enjoyable, informative tour of the new South Campus residence hall.
It was great to see everyone again and with some luck and a big of planning there was talk of a future gathering. We'll keep you posted regarding any possible event and you do likewise with any updates, milestones or other happenings.

Jon Otis, professor of interior design and exhibition design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, was named as one of the Most Admired Educators in 2009, by Design Intelligence, and the annual journal of design.
Ralph DeLuca continues to head the Bethel, CT Police Dept. Youth Bureau and serves as "house drummer" for the public schools' musical productions. Over the past two years, Ralph has been researching and lobbying the CT State Legislature to name Route #6 in honor of a state trooper who was killed in the line of duty there in 1960. In a bill signed by Governor Rendell the highway designation was completed. Ralph also celebrated the 20th anniversary of Bethel's DARE program which he began in the town in 1989. Ralph lives in Bethel with his wife, Traci, and their two children, Ralph and Anastasia.

Keith Baeder checked in with some exciting news. Keith and Nancy Lorenzo Baeder ’80 celebrated their twenty-seventh wedding anniversary. For the past 15 years, they lived in Dublin, Ohio. Keith is senior vice president and general manager for Miracle-Gro’s garden and bird food divisions of the Scotts Company. As Keith notes, this is the lawn and garden company, not the paper towel one. Nancy is a freelance writer and has been writing for Becton Dickinson for 20 years and for Wendy’s for about 10 years. Lately she has been writing with fellow alum Mike Jacobson, who owns a publishing company. The Baeders’ three children are all in college. Dan is a senior at Case Western Reserve University and plans to attend law school. The twins, Nicole and Michele, are freshman at the University of Dayton and on the Dayton Crew team. Both had outstanding high school careers and rowed in the national championship their senior year.
Keith still keeps in touch via e-mail with old classmates like Jon Otis, Kevin McCabe ’80, John Mathes, Bob Scardina ’80, Rob Marshall and Don Alldian. Keith would like to hear from others.
Speaking of reconnecting, I can think of no better time than at our 30th Reunion on Alumni Weekend, May 29-30, 2009. So start spreading the word and remember Alumni Weekend is open to all alums, not just those celebrating a reunion year. So if you keep in touch with classmates from another year, encourage them to attend one of the weekend events as well.
