Michael Bedics has been appointed director of the Office of Worship and Christian Initiation. For the past 10 years, Michael has been pastoral associate for worship and music at Cherry Hill’s Catholic Community of Christ Our Light. Prior, he spent five years as director of music at Saint Peter Celestine Parish in Cherry Hill.

James Deegan is the new Principal at Saucon Valley Middle School. Prior he was serving as the interim principal. He has also served as the associate principal for kindergarten and first grade at Saucon Valley Elementary School for two-and-a-half years. James also has been employed by the district as it’s Supervisor of Assessment and Instruction from 2007 to 2016.

Elizabeth Karhan Flaherty, Ph.D. has been named associate teaching professor of art history at Penn State, Lehigh Valley. Elizabeth serves as coordinator of the art administration program and the honor program at Penn State Lehigh Valley.

Timothy Blake is happy to be back in his home town of Dennis, Mass. after 20 years. He has returned this fall as the new principal of Nathaniel H. Wixon School. Tim, his wife, Katelyn Gwiazda Blake ’98, and three sons are currently living in West Yarmouth.

Jiri Stavovcik writes: I was named director of the Center for International Studies at the MVSO, private, technology & business oriented College in Olomouc, Czech Republic. You can learn more about the school at www.mvso.cz. During the hiring process, the members of the board were very interested about my studies at Moravian College and Bethlehem, Pa. They wanted to know every detail about Moravian and I felt very proud to be an alum.

Tiffany Shenman Volze and her husband, Fred, welcomed their first child, Holly Joan Volze. Holly was born on July 7, 2015 in Hoboken, NJ. Tiffany and Fred are so in love with their little girl and are enjoying every minute with her.

Heather Whary Turner writes: On January 27, 2015, Luke Jameson Turner, son of Heather Whary Turner and Marion (Randy) Turner, was born without a heartbeat. Although his life was short, he deeply affected those around him. He is greatly missed and loved by his parents, sisters Baxter and Colbie, and brother Quinn.

Tiffany Shenman currently lives in Hoboken, NJ where she been a realtor with Prudential Castle Point Realty for the last 12 years. In addition she works at the Guttenberg School District as a teacher of students with autism. After a whirlwind year of recovering from losing her Hoboken home in a fire earlier in the year, things have certainly turned around for her and she ended 2012 on an amazing note. She became engaged to Fred Volze on their 5 year anniversary on December 8th. They will be married on May 26th, 2013 in Hoboken, New Jersey and cannot wait to begin their new lives together.

Carla Thomas is living in South Whitehall Township and working at the Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley. Her children are Coby, 10, and Jana, 8. She is finally (and slowly) pursuing a master’s degree in library science from Clarion University, after having worked in several libraries over the years.

The Lehigh University Police Department has honored Cpl. Anthony Gallagher as the Ninth Annual Police Officer of the Year. Gallagher, a six-year member of the LUPD, was chosen by a committee of representatives from across the university community. LUPD chief Ed Shupp commended Gallagher’s dedication to campus safety through his supervision of the Community Police Unit, which debuted in January 2010.

Jason Roeder is the football coach at Freedom High School in Bethlehem. In his four seasons with the Patriots he has compiled a 26-19 record. Their success has been in large due to his instruction, as they have improved their record every consecutive year since he began. Elizabeth Tyler Bugaighis has joined the board of directors of the Community Services for Children for an initial three-year term. Bugaighis is the new dean of education and academic success at Northampton Community College. She heads the education, early childhood education, special education, and English as second language departments. Her additional responsibilities colleges wide include student retention and persistence initiatives, developmental education, tutoring services, and an NEH grant. She earned her doctorate in educational theory and policy from Penn State University. She holds a master's degree from Kutztown University and a bachelor's degree from Moravian College.
