Community Partner Spotlight: Feed the Children
Beth Baier, Volunteer Engagement Supervisor

Tell us about your work and your mission.

Feed the Children exists to end childhood hunger. It’s the cause upon which we were founded in 1979 and the one that we continue to fight for each and every day. We know it takes the power of many to end childhood hunger for good. We connect donors, experts, partners, leaders, and communities to attack the problem from all angles. We are taking a stand and we will not rest until every child has enough to eat.

What is your role at your organization and what is something many may not know about the work you do?

I am the Volunteer Engagement Supervisor here at Feed the Children. Many people may not know that the ability to help those in need would not exist without our volunteers. There are only six employees including myself that work at the Feed the Children distribution center located in Bethlehem. Without the help of volunteer groups and individuals we would not be able to help the thousands of families that we do.

What projects were completed on Heritage Day? How did volunteers on Heritage Day support your work?

On Heritage Day, Moravian students worked on our food and hygiene assembly lines, packing basic essentials for children and families in need.

What is your favorite part of your job?

The best part of my job is working with so many different people. As the Supervisor of Volunteer Engagement I get to interact with a vast array of people from all walks of life. It’s also nice to see that there are so many people out there willing to donate their free time to help others.

How does Moravian University support your mission?

Moravian helps support Feed the Children's mission by sending students to help pack food and hygiene boxes for the children and families that we help.

How can Moravian University—and the greater community—be more involved with your organization?

We host Box Brigade events each month. These events are open to the community to come out and help pack the boxes that are distributed to those in need. Anyone who is interested in helping out can email me at Beth.Baier@FeedtheChildren.org.

What do you hope for the future of your organization?

I hope that Feed the Children will continue to grow and help as many children and families as we possibly can. By continuing to work with the community and spreading the word of our mission we can help fight hunger.
