DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion)

Hispanic Heritage Month | September 15th- October 15th
Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) is a national celebration to honor the contributions Hispanic and Latinx Americans have made to our society. This year’s events will highlight the diverse stories, contributions and histories of the Latinx Community. Observation of Hispanic Heritage Month is key to our commitment to recognize and honor all members of our Moravian community.

LGBTQ+ Heritage Month | October
Founded to expand the celebration of National Coming Out day, LGBTQ+ Heritage Month is marked by commemoration and calls to action established by the Queer community. As part of our communities’ commitment to supporting all students and all identities, this year’s events will highlight accomplishments of the LGBTQ+ community in the arena of policy and social justice.

Bridging The Gap Conference | This Is Equity - Belonging, Unpacking, and Claiming
Saturday October 27th | Muhlenberg College
All students are welcomed to participate at no cost. The purpose of the conference is to help students explore their roles as active leaders for cultural change within their institutions and society, to increase awareness of the intersectionality of identity and diversity on campus, and to develop the skills to negotiate systems of privilege and oppression.

Gender Identity Support Plan| Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is creating a consistent, equitable action plan to support students who modify their gender identity expression and want this recognized formally on campus. The policies and procedures we establish will encourage a timely, campus-wide response and foster an environment of respect for the student. Elements of the plan include: the creation of institutional consistency between data platforms, offices and records when a student changes their gender identity; one-on-one support for students; ongoing trainings for faculty and staff who access student information.

Safe Zone Training | Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Safe Zone trainings are campus-wide learning opportunities to engage topics including LGBTQ+ identities, gender and sexuality, prejudice, assumptions, and privilege. The Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is reconstructing Safe Zone trainings to ensure that our community’s knowledge aligns with current trends in support and allyship. The modernized trainings will be integral to fostering an inclusive and civic Moravian community.
