Declaring a Major

Now that the first term of study is over for first-year students, students who know what they wish to study can go ahead and declare a major and start working officially with an advisor in their field. There are three exceptions: 1) students in nursing must complete the entire first year of study and meet all nursing progression requirements before formally declaring a nursing major; 2) students pursuing psychology must complete PSYC 211 with a grade of C or better before declaring a major; and 3) students in the economics and business department must complete ECON 152, ECON 156 (or MATH 107), and ACCT 157 with grades of C- or better before declaring a major. To declare a major, students can obtain the “declaration of major/change of major” form from the registrar’s office and follow instructions. Not sure of a major yet? No worries - students can wait until their junior year to declare if they need more time to decide, but please note that some majors cannot be completed in 2 years. We strongly encourage students to begin experimenting with courses in a potential major as early as possible, rather than trying to complete all of the general education courses before deciding on a major.

Summer Internship

Encourage your student to consider an internship this summer! Internships provide a valuable opportunity to build skills and gain the experience employers and graduate schools are seeking. Internships can be paid, unpaid and/or offered for academic credit. The Center for Career and Civic Engagement works with students individually to search and prepare for experiences that best meet their needs.

Deliveries on Campus

The Mail Room is open during regular business hours from 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. The Mail Room is closed when the college is officially closed.

• All mail sent to campus should be properly addressed with the student’s name and mailbox number.
• Shipments should be marked with Moravian College Mail Room. They should not be marked with HUB Desk or the dorm name and room number as this creates confusion for many small private deliveries.
• If there is an ability to list the student’s cell phone number, please do so as this is helpful if there are any issues with the shipment. Please do not list the parent phone number as this does not help us contact the student regarding the package.

Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 Course Registration

AMOS online registration will open late March, by earned units/credits, for students wishing to register for Fall 2020 and/or Winter 2021 courses. Students will login to AMOS and go to the College Student Tab on their assigned day. Advisor Registration Clearance, on AMOS, is required for online registration to officially open/activate for the student. Students may contact the Registrar’s Office with additional questions at any time!

Spring Semester Hall Closing Information

It feels like the students just returned, but some breaks are just around the corner!

During the following breaks the residence halls remain open, but we ask that students who choose to remain on campus register with the Office of Housing:

• Spring Break - After their last class on Friday, February 28, 2020 until Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Noon
• Easter Break - After their last class on Thursday, April 9, 2020 until Sunday, April 12, 2020 at 4pm

All non-graduating residents are expected to vacate 24 hours after their last exam or Sunday, May 10, 2020 at noon, whichever comes sooner. Graduating residents are expected to vacate by noon on Sunday, May 10, 2020.

Housing Selection Information

Upperclass students have the opportunity to identify their housing plans for the upcoming academic year during the spring semester through either a housing Pre-Selection (February & March) or General Selection (April) process.

Housing Status Application: All current students are required to complete the electronic Housing Status Application by Friday, February 28. This is your student’s opportunity to apply for off-campus status, declare commuter status, or commit to being an on-campus resident for the 2020-2021 academic year. Requests after February 28 include an appeal.

2020-2021 Meal Plan Information

Residential Meal Plan Selection

All on-campus resident students are required to have meal plans. The minimum required meal plan type is determined by the student’s housing assignment.

All students will be contacted in mid-April to complete the Meal Plan Selection Form to indicate their meal plan for the upcoming year.

Commuters and off-campus residents are not required to have a meal plan. However, they may elect to choose a meal plan when the form is shared.

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

During the spring semester, in addition to our on-going programing, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will be celebrating Black History Month (BHM) in February and Women’s History Month (WHM) in March. Among the events planned for BHM is an activity involving The Green Book, a travel guide that African Americans used during the Jim Crow era to plan road trips. The guides enabled travelers to identify restaurants, hotels, etc. that they could safely visit in a segregated and often hostile environment. On Wednesday., February 12 during lunch, members of the Moravian community will be invited to use an edition of the book to map out a trip from the Lehigh Valley to a destination in the South. Chef Stef and his team in The Star (cafeteria) will be preparing dishes that the travelers would have encountered in the 1940s, 1950s or 1960s along their way and upon reaching their destinations. Our WHM celebration will include a talk on Thursday, March 26 by nationally-acclaimed writer Daisy Hernandez, author of the memoir A Cup of Water Under My Bed and co-editor of the anthology Colonize This! Young Women of Color on Today's Feminism. And these events are just the tip of the iceberg!

Intercultural Graduation Ceremony| May 8, 2020

As a prelude to the official Moravian College Commencement Ceremony on May 9, 2020, DEI will host an Intercultural Graduation Ceremony and Reception on May 8, 2020, at 1:30 pm in Foy Concert Hall. The purpose of this ceremony is to honor the graduates of the Class of 2020 who were able to persevere through their collegiate journey in pursuit of the ultimate academic goal at Moravian College and leave a legacy of empowerment. This event will recognize and acknowledge the unique and diverse cultural backgrounds that our students bring to our campus community.
