Campaign Q&A

Please see below for frequently asked questions regarding Lighting the Way: The Campaign for Moravian University.

What is a comprehensive campaign? How is this different from Moravian's typical fundraising efforts?

Comprehensive campaigns advance the mission of Moravian forward in a significant, strategic direction. Fundraising and other engagement efforts across the university strengthen programs, support faculty, provide undergraduate and graduate scholarships, and enable cutting-edge research.

Why are we launching a campaign now?

Routinely ranked as one of the finest schools in the nation, Moravian College is now Moravian University, a momentous turning point in 2021 that honors how we have grown since 1742. While colleges typically focus on undergraduate education, we do that with distinction and much more! We also offer the master's and doctoral degree programs for which universities are known. The university designation also reflects the entire sweep of living and learning at Moravian, from research opportunities to global study to NCAA Division III athletics. University status conveys prestige, and anyone who has ever been part of our story can share in it.

Across the United States and globally, this name change will help us recruit even more of the students and faculty who reflect our values, diversity, and academic excellence. With this elevated university status comes even more expectation to deliver on our promise to prepare students for reflective lives, fulfilling careers, and transformative leadership. We are made for this moment.

And even as we take it on with pride, we can assure our community what will never change: that feeling of an intimate liberal-arts college where each student has a chance to find their own, individual way to be brilliant.

The campaign will provide the resources and experience for Moravian University to advance fully into the next 280 years. The transformation that celebrates our heritage and eagerly embraces our opportunities shapes this chapter through generous financial support and meaningful alumni and community engagement.

What is the comprehensive campaign fundraising goal?

Lighting the Way: The Campaign for Moravian University has an impressive goal of $75M in philanthropic support. The campaign has three priorities focused on providing accessible education for our students, equipping them with the skills and knowledge they will need for their future, and preparing our campus and facilities for the needs of the next generation.

I can't make a large gift, but I still want to participate in the campaign. Does my annual gift count?

All gifts, no matter the amount, count toward our campaign priorities. We are so grateful for every donor who makes Moravian University & Theological Seminary a philanthropic priority.

May I pledge my campaign gift over a period of time?

We encourage donors to spread their campaign gift over a five-year period. Capital campaigns have a special, targeted purpose for raising the money and the funds are restricted. By spreading your pledge out over time, gives you the flexibility to plan for your financial commitment.

Will donors (and donation amounts) be publicly acknowledged?

Donor recognition is an important part of every campaign. In recognition of their generosity, donors may agree that their name be included in various publications, donation reports, or other reports that may be made available to the public. If the donor wishes, they may remain anonymous.

Once I make my Campaign gift, how else can I help?

Our community can participate in a variety of ways that are personally meaningful for them - as an invested supporter, a dedicated volunteer, and a vocal and passionate partner.

We ask that you consider connecting us with others in your circle of influence. People give to people. Consider ways you can involve others to support this worthy effort. Contact a member of the Department of Development & Alumni Engagement for more information.
