A Letter from the President

Lighting the way for our students, their future, and the next generation

Dear Moravian community,

We have just kicked off a new, exciting year at Moravian, but I would like to reflect on our extraordinary achievements and the remarkable growth we experienced last year. We opened the academic year with record-breaking enrollment and broke ground to transform our Haupert Union Building (HUB) student center into a state-of-the-art space for innovation, collaboration, and growth. We finished the year strong, sending the Class of 2024 into the world as transformative leaders. But that’s not all.

Through the extraordinary generosity of our alumni, families, friends, and campus community, we also achieved our goal for Lighting the Way: The Campaign for Moravian University two years early, exceeding every expectation! Our community came together to provide $75 million in total philanthropic support for our students, their future, and the next generation. But our work does not stop here. Our commitment to Lighting the Way extends far beyond our initial goal—it is limitless until the campaign officially closes in 2026.

Also new this semester, our seminaries are teaching a shared curriculum, providing new learning opportunities and enhanced flexibility to our seminary students. In addition to the Master of Divinity program, Moravian Theological Seminary and Lancaster Theological Seminary now both offer the Master of Arts in Theological Studies, Master of Ministry, and Master of Arts in Chaplaincy programs. The Doctor of Ministry degree and Spiritual Certificate Program are also available at both campuses.

And this July, Moravian Church Settlements – Bethlehem was officially designated part of a transnational United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site. This prestigious honor is the culmination of a decades-long effort by Moravian University, the City of Bethlehem, Bethlehem Area Moravians, and other partners to recognize the cultural importance of the Moravians who settled here centuries ago.

Each new year brings a fresh opportunity for growth, discovery, and transformation; this year is no exception. We are already off to an incredible start, welcoming home 530 first-year students in the Class of 2028—the largest class in our 282-year history—and continuing our growth each year. We have so much to celebrate and look forward to, including the expansion of our beloved HUB, the beating heart of our campus. I am optimistic and excited about all we will accomplish this year together!
