A Second Family
For student-athlete Maia Machado ’27, Moravian quickly became a second home, and the communication science and disorders major has fully immersed herself in the Greyhound community. A standout on both the field hockey and lacrosse teams, Maia also finds time to be active in Alpha Sigma Tau sorority Managing academics, athletics, and involvement has been a challenge she has embraced, thanks to her supportive environment.
“I chose Moravian because of the small, tight-knit community,” Maia says. “I love going everywhere and seeing people I know. The coaches and teachers truly care about you here and make it feel like a second family.”
That sense of belonging has been the highlight of her Moravian journey so far. Maia thrives on the encouragement she receives from professors, coaches, and peers. “What I enjoy most about my Moravian experience is the community. The teachers, coaches, and friends you meet here will always push you to do your best.”

Balancing sports, academics, and leadership roles has taught her the value of teamwork and community. “This environment has taught me how to balance my time, and approach challenges with a positive attitude.”
