Ability to Dream Bigger
There was a time Rachel Casimir ’27 didn’t know if a four-year university was a possibility for her. Despite her financial concerns, she applied to a handful of colleges and received acceptance letters. The financial support Moravian University offered her was a difference-maker. She visited, loved the campus, and enrolled.
Rachel is a marketing management major and aspires to be a corporate transactional attorney defending small businesses and franchises. Growing up, she watched her immigrant father struggle as an entrepreneur. It lit a fire in her to one day defend business owners like him.
“Coming from a low-income family, I’d assumed I would go straight to the workforce or attend community college. However, thanks to your help, I’ve had the opportunity to dream bigger,” Rachel says.
When asked to describe herself in one sentence, Rachel is focused on her future, “ I’m someone who’s doing her best to make a lot out of a little.” She’s taking advantage of every opportunity at Moravian, including networking and learning to market herself, as well as participating in various student groups. She currently serves as an orientation leader and volunteer with Vespers, plus she has executive board positions with the Black Student Union and Pre-Law Society. She says she’s found a home in Moravian’s community, and she look forward to giving back in the years to come to help future Greyhounds with similar backgrounds and goals.

What inspired you to attend Moravian?
Being a low-income student, I never thought that a four-year university was even an option for me. On a whim, I applied for a handful of schools that were relatively close to home, and I got accepted into all of them. Each school offered me a scholarship, but Moravian offered the most support. Seeing my acceptance letter and financial aid support shifted my mindset, and I thought a four-year university was actually a possibility for me. After I visited the campus with my dad and saw how comfortable and intimate it was, I made up my mind.
What are your career goals and desired profession?
I intend to become a corporate transactional attorney, defending small businesses and franchisees. I want to first build my professional identity as a marketer or financial consultant and then use the skills that I will have acquired to help jumpstart my career as an attorney.
Are you considering an advanced degree? If so, what are your plans?
Yes, I am. I intend to go to law school to pursue my J.D. full time. I'll likely attend a university closer to my hometown. However, I haven't yet closed the door on the idea of attending a university somewhere farther away.
What inspired you to pursue your major?
My immigrant dad was an entrepreneur, and so was his mother before him. However, he no longer owns a business. Growing up seeing his business struggles, I promised I would become a lawyer to defend him. While I can't represent him now, I can still do the same for others, so that's why I decided to have a business-school base behind my law school aspirations. I chose marketing management in particular because it's something that suits my strengths well.
How has your experience at Moravian contributed to your personal growth or development?
Attending Moravian has been the single most enriching experience for me, especially in my professional career. I've learned how to network with others, market myself efficiently, and what it takes to enter the professional world. I've also gotten some significant opportunities to help hone my leadership skills, including my roles as an Orientation Leader, Corner Captain for Vespers, and my executive board positions with the Black Student Union and Pre-Law Society.
If you met someone new and had to describe yourself in one sentence, what would you say about yourself?
I'm someone who's doing her best to make a lot out of a little.
What is one word to describe your Moravian experience?
Opportunity.
